Subject says it all, we need more people to sign up and help defend.
There are 4 sieges taking place tonight between 20:28 and 23:28 EST that are currently showing less defenders than attackers. I'm pretty sure it's not intended by the developers to have these fiefs taken so easily. Personally I think they should do more to incentivize defender participation, perhaps a guaranteed 2-5 Strategus gold and maybe 5-10 for a successful defense.
Also, I don't understand those in an ambitious faction who don't take more interest in fiefs easily going to competing factions, especially those in close proximity to one another. Even if it's your ally taking a fief, come and make an interesting fight. That's what most of us are here for in the first place, right? Battles that matter. With more organization and teamwork than you might find on a native server or even other cRPG servers.
Come on down, join us and MAKE THEM BLEED for the land they want to control!

would help if AI actually paid mercenaries....not much incentive currently to fight for them
-
i have a hilarious idea for helping fiefs get defenders...
allow people to sign alts for defending neutral fiefs... right now signing for AI is often heavily political... but, if people could sign up incognito... then i bet youd see a hell of a lot more defenders for AI villages.
-
Fricken great idea.
-
No god damn money in signing up god dammit

Your. Enemies. Get. Free. Fiefs.
-
lotsa clans dont have any enemies.. so who signs vs them? not many.

No one cares about those scrub clans anyways, they rarely even take fiefs.

cool idea but i'm sure you can tell someones fighting style from a new random player...
-
ehh depends.. thats true for some people if they play a class they are known for and you get em in 1v1 situations... but in the chaos of a strat fight... its not easy recognizing people...

People are getting political over representing NPC villagers? Come on. So factions are "throwing in the towel" for some of these fiefs and wasting what could be great cRPG battles (which is what we're all here for, right?) to ensure some kind of position for themselves? I suppose that's the way the ball bounces for some people.
But why can't people face each other in combat, fight the best they can and talk about the highlights with everyone when it's over? It is a game, after all. Why do egos and politics have to get in the way of some carnage on the battlefield? There is an "RPG" in cRPG so why not try to role play a villager who won't stand for some upstart band of thugs taking over their lands? Cowards.
On a lighter note:
I agree with you Matey, allowing alts to sign up for NPC defense would be awesome. :)
-
Also, even if you recognize them as not a new player via their style, you still wont be sure who it really was. Maybe for a few special players, but not most.

it is what it is. welcome to politics.

Welcome to war.

I dunno I sign up for some village defenses just because Strategus battles are fun (and they actually buy crossbows) then everyone calls me a douchebag in steam messages because of it feeling betrayed. But its just a game so suck it nerds USA USA USA
-
I demand CRPG gold to not sign up against you in village battles. Look at DaveUKR's post for my pay scale.

There are a couple of very easily recognisable players out there. Mr Parkinson "Atze" Disease for example. But I guess you NAs never heard about that guy.

Well its nothing personal. We just play on NA servers

I completely agree. Perfect fix. Too much political butthurt, not enough playing. Also fits in with roleplaying, because those are the dudes you're kicking out of their land.

not to mention the hilarity of seeing a village defended by a horde of Zulu's, SWAT, and or Axe_Gang.

There would have to be a whole "Village_Defender" group. Lead by Village_Elder of course. He'd show up for every battle.
-
works for me!
hell just give every player a Village_Defender STF alt! :D
-
Epoch would make a great 'Village Idiot'

defending fiefs isn't fun because a) you always lose b) the villages usually buy shitty gear (let me tell you how much i love shortened spears and weaboo armor) c) archery is currently mad op so the attackers always bring lots d) archers aren't fun to play against
-
If neutral fiefs payed, I am sure practically all players would disregard politics. 28 rounceys for having 10 clan members help defend a neutral fief? Who wouldn't sign up.
As of now, by signing up for neutral fiefs, you wither political ties, but gain nothing from it. The only people who sign up now do it purely for the fun.
-
Just give defenders lots of gold and xp.
Done.
I mean, it's a bug that the AI doesn't pay up, right? I'm no expert here, but fix that and I think we've gone a long way.

This isn't entirely true and you are a big baby.
Right now the attackers usually just try to win with superior numbers and archers.
Villages have won even when 900 vs 500. The equipment is shit, but so is the attacker's equipment, and you are defending inside a village and the village buys siege shields, turtle up and wait for them to attack you, don't go running out into the open. But this usually never happens because of the low quality of unorganized defenders.
The fief defense thing wasn't political until there became no reason other than to dick someone over, for you to sign up. When XP was given out en masse "nah bro just doin it for xp", when cRPG gold was given out "nah bro just doing it for the golds." Now the only excuse is "nah bro just doin' it cuz it is fun", which is a legitimate excuse but most people will see it as you having "fun" at their expense.
Incgonito mode is a nice suggestion, but then everyone will also want incognito mode for regular battles (to hide their shameful displays).
