Title: Range Overhaul Mod (v0.9)
Post by: _Sebastian_ on October 30, 2011, 01:39:05 pm
Important note
Since I'm developing my own mod Batte of Europe (http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,239917.msg5739758.html#msg5739758), I have no time to update this mod for each cRPG patch.

Hi guys.
This is my first cRPG mod and I post it in this board, because there is no mod board.

So this mod replaces the "ugly" flying missiles with real flying arrows and bolts.
It also replaces the flying missiles of the siege equipment(when you throw it) with the correct models(Ladders, Shields, etc.).
(click to show/hide)

The new animated quivers with full ammo and new arrows (only version"a" includes back-quivers).
(click to show/hide)

New animated bolt bags with full ammo and new bolts.
(click to show/hide)

The new realistic arrow-size (new=85cm - 88cm, old=102cm - 107cm) also fits better to the animation.
(click to show/hide)

I also made new animated models for the hunting- and heavy crossbow.
(click to show/hide)

New bow texture.
(click to show/hide)

The new crosshair.
(click to show/hide)

You can download the latest version here:
(compatible with cRPG v.253)
Not Working
v0.9a (http://www.file-upload.net/download-4001391/Range-Overhaul-Mod-v0.9a.rar.html) (with back quivers)
v0.9b (http://www.file-upload.net/download-4001394/Range-Overhaul-Mod-v0.9b.rar.html) (side quivers only)

Install:
Just paste the "Modules" folder into your Mount&Blade Warband directory.

If you want to change the old flying missile object back, then do the following steps:

It's a bit strange to carry a quiver on your back. You can't get the arrows out of the quiver if they're positioned on your back like that.

^hmm the arrows flighting thingy is nice too but the quiver on the back distracts me a bit :D
I'll be waiting for the vesrion without quivers on the back.

Its not impossible, I shoot bows myself with a quiver made for being strung around your back, in my opinion I think its alot less awkward than stringing your arrow from a hip-quiver.

Just remembered something!

It's always bothered me that almost ALL weapons of one type uses the same "place" on your body. For example, almost all 1handers are sheathed on the left hip. Even swords/scabards who were actually on the right hip are on the left hip. I would like some more variety in this. What would be nice is if f.ex all swords where on one hip and all maces/axes/picks on the other. Same with 2h. All swords the way it is now, all axes and maces the way crossbows are hanging. Same with pole. Sadly I don't know how to do this. It would be cool if you could make a minimod for this too, maybe incorporate it in this one here :D Or you could give a link to a tutorial and I could do it.

Would there be a way to mod a toggle for the in-game text? The conversations are all well and funny (occasionally) but sometimes I'd rather not be distracted by the peanut gallery, on top of kill messages, when I just want to battle.

If you want to use the old crosshair, then delete the "ui_gadgets.dds" from
"...\mountblade warband\Modules\cRPG\Textures".

By the way...
I'm going to change the wood-texture of the longbow, that it looks like this.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

But its not easy to do this, because the most bows use the same wood texture.

We will see...

I can't guarantee that I will release a compatible item_kind1.txt for this mod,
because my free time for modding is very short at the moment.

I'm working really hard to release a new version in the next 1-2 weeks.
This is what you will see in the upcoming update + (current status);
- new models/textures for the hunting- and heavy xbow (90%)
- reworked LOD's (50%)
- new realistic arrow and bolt models/textures (40%)
- reworked quivers (20%)
- maybe some reworked bow models/textures for a more realistic look (10%)
- maybe a reworked bow-drawing animation (0%)

I will post some screens of the new stuff soon...
Have a nice day.

I have some problems with the new animated quivers(with full ammo).
The animation looks bugy and I dont know why. I try to fix this since 4 days.

So the release of the new version will be later... I dont know how long it will be.
Or I will release a version without the new quivers and arrows/bolts.

We will see.

Looks brilliant, I myself use a archer extensively. It's good to see that some players actually care about us lot. Although, and no offence meant at all, it would be more of an improvement if you didn't grab the default cross-hairs and invert them. But no doubt your already working on it. Awesome job.

Title: Re: Range Overhaul Mod (v0.9)

backquivers were used, but not for warfare. using a backquiver is only vaiable if you have to move through an area which has narrow passings and where your sidequiver can get stuck behind things, such as trees and bushes, that's why a backquiver is only vaiable when you are hunting in the woods. the reason why you should normally use a sidequiver is because it's just faster then a backquiver, that's because the arrow is already closer to the position it should be on your bow to shoot it. and i'm an archer in rl myself, so i know. amazing work so far btw. the full quivers really are a nice contribution to the mod.

Post by: Moncho on January 05, 2012, 03:51:06 pm
Really good work, I like seeing my quiver actually empty and not only at the very end.
Maybe you could join this with finalboss's for the looms he is doing and save him some work if he hasn't done it (just a suggestion)
Also, is it my impression, or have the bodkin arrows become a bit lighter colour than they were before?
Anyway, I really enjoy this mod, the animation now looks as if it was acually grabbing the arrow
Edit: I have lags and a consistent fps drop while using this mod, any reasons as to what can be causing it?

The easiest way to do this would be to copy the ui_gadgets.dds from your Warband/Textures-Folder into your cRPG/Textures-Folder.
Edit: This (http://www.file-upload.net/download-4005579/ui_gadgets.dds.html) File for the really lazy ones

backquivers were used, but not for warfare.
Wrong.
Both types of quivers were used, also for warfare.
But the most arrows were stuck on the ground(for fast shooting).
A backquiver also gives a better ability to run.

And yes I'm an archer in RL...
I also made my own medieval bows, arrows, quivers and other stuff.

Edit: I have lags and a consistent fps drop while using this mod, any reasons as to what can be causing it?
I'm working on a patch wich should solve some performance issues.

Sebastian do you have this mod with the original crosshair?
Just delete the ui_gadgets.dds which is located in the texture folder of crpg.

Why do I still have the sidequiver animation when I use your backquiver mod?

Btw, one problem about your changed flying arrows:  It's nice, that you have an arrow instead of a line, problem is that you don't see any arrow flying.

Another thing: Is it intended that your crosshair is so much above your actual shot?  Regardless where I am, my crosshair is above the position I'm actually hitting.
I know as an archer you always have to aim higher than your target is, but with your mod I have to aim higher AND consider that I have to aim higher for another 2 centimeters due to that :/

Something more^^  When I take arrows back from the ground, my quiver will stay empty on the screen :/

1. You see the old animation, because I haven't changed the bow animation yet.

2. If you see the arrows flying or not depends on your display resolution.
My resolution is 1920x1080 on a 32"screen and I use 4xAA.
But if you cant see the flying arrows while you zoom in, then try to reinstall my mod.

3. The position of the crosshair is still the same as the old one... I just changed the texture of it.
Maybe you tested the new crosshair when it was raining.
Arrows and bolts are flying slower and drop earlier if it's raining.

4. For me all quivers work fine.
Try to reinstall the mod.

Wrong.
Both types of quivers were used, also for warfare.
But the most arrows were stuck on the ground(for fast shooting).
A backquiver also gives a better ability to run.

And yes I'm an archer in RL...
I also made my own medieval bows, arrows, quivers and other stuff.
I'm working on a patch wich should solve some performance issues.
Just delete the ui_gadgets.dds which is located in the texture folder of crpg.
not for massive archer volleys, because it is slower, so then they'd be retarded.
only english longbowmen used to stick there arrows in the ground to shoot faster and get them all mudded up for extra infection. another reason that they were the only ones that sticked their arrows in the ground was because they were the only ones that used thousands of archers to preform volleys and stay in the same place.
but a backquiver wasn't needed on battlefields for archers because, they wouldn't run, if they'd be running, they couldn't shoot their bows. 7500 longbowmen at Crecy made the french run, not themselves.
also, the animation of the shooting from a backquiver is f*cked up, and that's a fact.
so, the points for having a sidequiver in warfare are:
-faster shooting.
-you wont get slowed down in woods or so, because battles were fought on open plains, not in the dencest of woods.
-archers weren't used for running a marathon. there lords would probably wouldn't even want them to be able to run because then they'd rout more easily.

Ok Sebastian, the more you do on this the more impressed I am becoming.

I will certainly be downloading this and picking out the good stuff from it that doesn't change my own stuff.
I particularly like your work with the full arrow/crossbow stacks in a quiver & your arrow size changes (although I will stick with the larger ones as they're easier to spot on the ground! ;) Gameplay over realism on that one).

Keep up the great work, i'm looking forward to whatever you bring out next!

No, was sunny^^

I tested it a couple of minutes, the arrows always went into the target about 2 centimeters below my actual aimposition. on very short distance, but also on a bit more distance

Maybe I'll reinstall it and see then, but I will probably take Tenne's version with the stuff he takes from you :D

Nevertheless, very nice work you've done

I bump this

I'm not going to make my mod available for the current cRPG version,
because there are some bugs(invisible helmets, script errors etc.) which should been fixed first.

So I will release the new update after some hot-fixes from the cRPG-team.

Sounds reasonable. In like one week everything should be settled...

You have to open the item_kinds.txt and search for:
Code: [Select]
barbed_arrows_flying_h1
Code: [Select]
bodkin_arrows_flying_h1
Code: [Select]
tatar_arrows_flying_h1
Code: [Select]
arrows_flying_h1
And then replace them all with:
Code: [Select]
flying_missile
Thats all

Yeah thanks, I know that you prefer seeing the models but I really can't see where I'm shooting at all.

Edit: Hm it was actually barbed_flying_missile, tatar_flying_missile, bodkin_flying_missile that I had to replace with flying_missile. Not sure what the normal arrow one was.

Oh damn...
You just changed arrow_flying_h1 correctly, when you shot the other arrows then you will see no missiles flying.

Now you have to delete the red part;
barbed_flying_missile
tatar_flying_missile
bodkin_flying_missile

I should change the order of my instruction that noone gets the same problem

Good evening.
I know you guys haven't heard from me since 4 months and so there were no newer versions of ROM(Range Overhaul Mod).
But this has a good reason.

I'm working on my own warband mod and I'm really busy with it.
I do all myself...
coding, modeling, texturing, animations, sounds etc. so this takes much time.

It's a total conversion of warband which plays in the late 15th/early 16th century europe with all it's weapons, armors and buildings of this time period.
It's just in an early state(alpha) and only a few Wolves members already played it.

So this is the reason why there are no newer versions.
But...
I'm going to make new bows, xbows, arrows and bolts for my mod and maybe I will port them to ROM later, if cRPG still excist then :P
