Title: Upkeep tips
Post by: Frank on October 20, 2011, 04:17:55 pm
Hey guys, can anyone here give some tips to survive the plague that is upkeep? At level 30 I estimate me equipment will be 60k+ in total cost, and I need ways to cover this. I am already going to sell a loom point, but what else can I do? Thanks!

Wear cheaper gear.

Not an option.

Not an option.

Duel lots on the duel server. Then get in the big fights. Fight well, fight hard.

I roll with 107k gear. I still make a small profit and can maintain my gear.

Any other mode but battle will be a money sinkhole. I like to roll around in peasant cloth because it's a change from my regular Teal Doom Butt Armor. So alternating is also an option.

60k total cost is a lot. You will most probably lose money, unless you're really lucky with multis. If you really want to wear 60k gear, you better farm a nice pile of gold playing in peasant gear first.

Consider playing DTV being nude with only one weapon or a shield, you don't need more than that in organised teams. With a good team you will get the equivalent of a constant x3 in battle.

60k really is a lot. There's no way you can't at least find a cheap equivalent of your weapon.

You can also try being a valour leecher.

This,

What you're using sounds super expensive for someone who is still asking for upkeep tips.

You aren't going to be able to wear 60k forever.  You will have to alternate.

However, if you sell a loompoint and keep all the gold, then you will be able to keep wearing 60k worth of equipment for a very very long time.

But yeah, most people alternate between an expensive and moderate upkeep equipment set.

Some people wear only cheap gear at 1x, then change out to something a little nicer at 2x, then even better at 3x, etc.  Full plate and expensive weapons is totally fine to wear at 5x.

So yeah...lots of different ways.

Dexxtaa stop counting heirlooms that is fake inflation!

Thanks guys. I have heard about 'valour' by the way, and got it a few times. How exactly do I earn it?

You're supposed to fight to the end. Usually when occurs when you're the last one alive.

But most of the time people run like fucking morons until someone finally puts their coward asses down.

Survive near the end.

Being in proximity to enemy and killing a few may or may not help.

You must also lose.

So basically, you have a higher chance of a multiplier of you contribute to the team and actually win the round. Don't valour leech.

If you really want valor, get 13 shield skill and have 1-3 people hack at your shield for the whole round. Play it right and you will even help your team win, which is better than valor. Also, I recommend the board shield, with the removal of force fields, the extra size still makes it useful, but it doesn't cost much.

if youre are losing money, multi should dictate how much gear you wear

1x = 10k
2x = 20k
3x = 30 & above. use your best to defend multi

If you want to constantly rock 60k, you'll need a stash of gold, most likely from selling a loompoint.

A better strategy, that Diggles suggested, is to have two different sets of equipment, one for low multipliers like x1 and x2, and then your good stuff for x3, x4, and x5.

Why can't you go under 60k? Are you heavy cav or something? If you're a melee, then you can often take a cheaper version of the weapon without sacrificing too much.

Playing smart is more helpful for surviving than using heavy armour.

I suggest you to use cheaper armour at x1 and x2.
That way you should still be able to use your best primary weapon every round.

It takes a long time to get to level 31, you should heirloom something for yourself instead of selling it.  I just finished heirlooming my 17.3k cost kherghit elite armor and it's stats are now 21 weight 59 body 23 leg.  That's the same stats as regular milanese plate armor which would be almost twice the upkeep cost at 31.6k and has 7 more weight.

My cheap set is: leather boots, scale gauntlets, sarranid guard armor and mail coif for 15.8k total (20k with mace)

My cheap set is a straw hat, short tunic, wrapping boots and a hafted blade at 5,374g.

Repairs are like 400g. But since I have wpf in polearms, it's usually 0 xD

If you keep retiring, you should make a reasonable profit in the levels below 20 or 25, because you won't be wearing your heavy gear.

Also consider upping agility first and strength later when leveling, that way you increase the time you run around in light gear a bit.

That should allow you to wear the 'heavy' gear loadout on the levels above 20 or 25. But yeah, 60k is a bit much perhaps.

60k is pretty fucking heavy armor to never take off. Are you sure you CAN'T take that armor off?

What in gods name are you wearing anyway?

I just about break even with a 77,991 Gold loadout (After reducing the increased gold cost of heirlooms)

If you do well enough to get x5 regularly you could use 60k worth of gear and make a profit I would think.

I am going to be using Flamberge, full gothic plate, with heavy plate hands and leg armor. I have a low multi armor set, but I really only use it on x1 and x2.

You should really try to go half-naked with your flamberge. If you use the higher movement speed and agility at your advantage, you can even be better than with heavy armor on. Moreover, you will improve your skills much faster. But keep in mind you can't play the same way. Exposing yourself to arrows will be a lot more risky, while you will be able to switch targets more often in melee.

I do not know what the 'wow' is about, considering this is what alot of people use. In fact I am using regular gauntlets (many people go for heavy, which are ALOT more expensive) and iron greaves, which are also a cheap alternative. I was told flamberge works well with heavy armor (I am also 'copying' random dudes armor and build).

Yes, but those guys have been playing cRPG for quite a while, so they have huge piles of gold to sustain the gold loss from being a tincan.

Meh, whatever I can deal with it. Plan on retiring at 31 anyway, and moving away from tincan.

Yeah man, get some mid armor, 9-18 weight, and a mid-range weapon with a style you like.  I wish there was a nice Straight 2h sword in the 8k range, but I mean, cleavers, axes, even the (11)-12k (Heavy) Greatsword is a beast weapon, and knocks 6k off your weapon cost.  2Hers can put in work in lamellar with a strong weapon.  Just find a style you like.

Random Dude told me he had a massive stockpile of gold, from selling multiple loom points, that is how he wears 24/7 gothic.

Pretty much.

Also clutching multiple rounds helps.

Wearing plate 24/7 is an option available only to those who commit enough time into the game, and maintain that.

If you're just starting out, it's simply financially impossible.

You need to have 5x almost always to do that kind of shit. Play on the duel server 24/7 for like 3 months and maybe you won't be shitty. Otherwise you are going to be broke as fuck real fast.

You'll also probably want at least 50k(probably 80k) as a starting buffer to bankroll the randomness of having lots of repairs in a row.

I hope you've already played a lot with medium armor and something like a danish to see if you really like big 2h swords and are good at it. Otherwise you are going to be broke as fuck really fast and equally as frustrated.

You also might consider respecing when you hit 26, so you never pay upkeep. Just live at 22-26.

 Level 22 (907 507 xp)

    Strength: 24
    Agility: 6
    Hit points: 73

    Skills to attributes: 6

    Ironflesh: 7
    Power Strike: 8
    Shield: 0
    Athletics: 2
    Riding: 0
    Horse Archery: 0
    Power Draw: 0
    Power Throw: 0
    Weapon Master: 0

DO NOT SELL YOUR LOOMPOINT, YOU NAME THIEF! You can seel it but don't eat it with upkeep FFS.
