It's called Battle mode, not ladderclimb/roofhug mode.
To counter the typical "but ranged is weak and needs that cover" argument, take a good Archer. He (or she) can clean your clock without that silly playstyle you think your "class" needs to be competent.
It's fine in strat, fine in siege.
But not in the typical Battle map. It just messes up everything even more.
Think about it please.
For those who think that ladder use of this is a must to stay competent:
In short: If you need to hide your ass up there 24/7, then quit ranged. People do fine without it anyways.
-
IMO, this has been long overdue.
I can only approved(yes I realise it's not the whole meme but it's accurate enough). +1
-
I don't understand...
-
Play some EU, then.
Maybe it isn't like that on NA. I don't know.
-
I do, I was just on the Pecores for two hours.
-
Play on EU1.
-
I do.
I blame a particular few of the maps.
-
It's fucking annoying and can ruin whole rounds/maps and that's all you need to know, ToD.
-
I do.
I blame a particular few of the maps.
Me too.
Almost all villages can become Bullet_Hell thanks to that.
Especially when somehow a lot of ranged, way more ends up in a team. Ooohooh
:?
-
Ladders add possibilities to maps and help keep them interesting. But seeing as it's mostly the same boring maps played over and over and over might as well make them even more tiresome by removing the other dimension ladders add. Sure get rid of them. I don't care.
-
We would not have this problem if everyone just brought a shield and a crossbow...
-
Nice. Forcing stuff like that on players to deal with it.
*obvioussarcasmisobvious*
I dislike how people spew out this "omg it's tactical and blah blah blah" talk. It isn't tactical at all.
Only use of it is quickly capturing a Rooftop with like 10 ranged, then destroying it. Trying to climb up there is suicide.
Other dimension.. You're right, a dimension of suckage.
-
You should be glad that the devs didn't implement something like this (http://youtu.be/tw1w6p8RNks).
-
cmp still got headshotted by an AI crossbowman.
See? Crossbows are overpowered.
-

Well I would point out that if you have any competent throwers, archers and crossbowmen on your team they should be able to deal with roof archers. But whatever. Expect a lot of archers up on hills after ladders are removed which I'm sure will be yet another source of complaint by many.
-
There is the problem.
Shit hits the fan when one team has WAY more ranged players than the other.
Try to counter them like that.
There is a joke,
You can only be as effective as Romanian Anti-Aircraft Defense.
Jumping around, fist up in the air, and Swearing at the pilots.
Sry Romania, I forgot what nation it was actually.

Well, when that happens, usually the other team would get all the cavs, and the poor infantries will have to count on their blessings, then :).

It is tactical, it is a way to get over magnetic shields, and fire over friendlys. I normally never have a problem with roof archers because I almost never see them. I play on the Haven server, or the Ootl most of the time, and I dont think I've seen it once.
-
+1, roof camping is übergay. Melee and archers should work together on a battlefield, with melee trying to protect them from ninjas and whatnot.
Roofcamping gives you fucking invincibility until you're one of the last guys alive (thanks to the rule).

1) Create a 2-handed melee character with 100% into two-handed wpf. Your character is like a mewling baby in the face of all ranged attacks, completely helpless.
2) Complain on the forums to get all forms of ranged attacks and tactics nerfed, even though ranged pretty much never tops the kill charts.
3) ???
4) Profit
100 wpf in throwing and some javelins (or even throwing knives) will give the average archer something to think about, particularly with two or three people chucking stuff at him. Or bring a crossbow, which takes no wpf to get a good aim with. Or just bring a crappy wooden shield and wear it on your back and take it out when you need to cross "archer alley".
Really, what DO you two-hander goons do with your 2 free slots? Load up on sandwiches? Bring a second copy of your favorite sword so you can bring them out together during lulls in combat and put on a Punch & Judy show? Why not, you know, bring a ladder? Or some javelins? Or a light crossbow and some bolts?
At any rate, I have a new favorite thing to do with ladders: lay them against a wall or tree, preferably at a shallow angle, and use them as anti-cavalry "clothesline" traps. The cav comes around the corner and whamo, right into the ladder. Archers can also stand on the ladder to keep our of reach of cavalry, though it leaves them exposed to enemy archers. (Credit for this idea goes to Diggles.)
Removing ladders would be bad.
Adapt or die.
Next you'll want horses removed. And shields. And bows. And throwing weapons. And basically everything except 2H and plate.

Oh boy talk about biased.
Can anyone get to camping roof monkeys when they use ladders? Anyone at all? No? So how the fuck is this about 2H/plate then?
The sheer fact that roof monkeys are pretty much untouchable up there is disturbing. Why not work on your defense too, have melee protect you, have cavalry protect you, fuck, have other ranged protect you by crossfire, bring siege shields?
It's just too fucking easy for one guy to plant a ladder and so the whole archer team can camp the shit out of that roof, innit?
-
remove ladders, archers need to fight like real men. I see good archers fighting on the ground, problem is most people aren't good archers, they have no awareness and get stabbed in the back. Reintroduce ladders once we can set buildings on fire.
-
Should have happened long ago, I don't know what the fuck is taking so long.
-
our team had to attack a village. guess who was waiting for us on the roof? more then half of the enemy team!
right at the beggining they got on two different roofs braking the ladders straight away therefor excluding 3/4 of my team to play...

Ironic statement considering by removing ladders you would be enforcing your playstyle onto other players.

I wonder wtf archer used to do before they implemented Immunity to Melee ladders....
Shit needs to go...
Or... Add a wtf pocket forcefield resistance tablet wich gives immunity to ranged until the admin says you need to deactivate it... make it 1 slot and then when activated it gets removed from your inventory...

Think of it as being more realistic. Archers in the medieval times were a force to be feared on the battlefield and funny enough they got about as much respect then as from what I seen on this forum.

Plz redirect your realism gibberish to the none balance section clearly realism dont belong in balance... hence realism has its own section now on the forums

Before Ladders, archers used to launch rapid fire missiles with perfectly accurate reticules at a rate of 20 per second, with pierce regardless of arrow or bow type and then find the spots to get on top of roofs on half the maps and decimate everyone who didn't have a shield.
Also they had flamberges as back up melee weapons and were fully clad in plate.
-
A good Archer should keep forward anyway, and help stun lock people and pick off the cav. The vikings used to keep archers up front in the skirmish, and it works will in crpig. The wrost thing in the game is 2 archers on 2 roofs having a duel, dullest way to end around ever.
OOOH OOH HE FIRED!
Oh, side step. OH NOW HE FIRED!
Eh, side step.
YAY RANDOM LUCKY HEAD SHOT WOOO!!!
-
So.....are they out yet?
-

No. Legolass can still buy immunity from melee for only 1k
-
this shit is getting real tiresome. either take ladders out completely or make them indestructible so we dont have unreachable ranged ppl

This. And don't brag about those pieces of wood that don't even protect more than 30° in front of the user. I don't know why we call them shields. Sieves would be more accurate.
-
i think ladders shoud be removed, because when 1 team have ladders and other team not, it is pretty unbalance, in that case i think maps like desert villages with 0 spots for ranged shoud be removed also.

Ranged don't need "spots".

when in enemy team half in cav and you are arbalestman who reload like a year long, you need some corner little roof for reloading or hiding.

Or stand near your mates. Any 2h or polearm guy will do the trick.
Also, in open plains you can see cav coming from miles away, and you don't even need to time your arrow nocking like archers when cav comes towards you. If you are not experienced enough not to shoot when there are cav nearby and simply wait for them to comes towards you, it's your fault. You can be catched off guard while reloading (although decent xbowmen take their melee wep and dodge the cav), but when you have a bolt ready, cav can do nothing against you.

rly wow pro tips hahaha) so anyway i think ladders bring much disbalnse in game, ofc it is cool sit on roof and top scoreboard, but only when both teams have ladders, not only 1
-
make ladders immune to damage from the team that placed them. that way people can't camp rooftops and only the enemy can destroy the ladder if it suits them. it's completely unrealistic, but ladders belong in the game and are important.
