Title: Make athletics more useful: reduces fall damage etc

athletics isn't that great.

agility increases move/runs speed by roughly just as much. I did a lil test a while ago and say 30 agility roughly same speed when running as 15 agility, 5 athletics. I read somewhere athletics is 5% movement but thats probably of base movement not effecting run speed. I got a 9 athletics char (will be 10 at lvl 30), and tbh it doesn't move THAT much faster than a normal 3-5 athletics char, even heavy armoured guys. the small bonus is pretty much useless, not like you can really outrun people or run out of swing reach, you still get backpeddled, you walk mega slowly up hills. only time I notice obvious advantage is on flat ground rushing an archer they get less free shots on me, and its easier to dodge arrows but only from far away.

so I suggest some secondary effects of athletics rather than suggesting you make it faster. I suggest firstly althletics exponentially reduces fall damage, so althletic stackers can jump down high distances unharmed. also penalty for walking up hills and such should be reduced alot depending on athletics, so you could run up hills somewhat. also would be nice if jump height could be improved but that sounds harder to implement, might be nice for arrow dodging though. I was also thinking of adding crouch like musket mod, but making skills controll the speed of the animation so you could use its quickly to dodge arrows or mele side swings :D

but idk how codable my suggestions are maybe someone else can come up with something better. its not exactly a gamebreaking issue but i'm bored.

Personnaly I would not like the "crouching" ability. I think it would screw some things up. But your idea about the fall damage is nice. Maybe increase the falling damage of heavy armor so the heavier ur armor is, the more damage you get but on the contrary, the lighter ur armor is less falling damage u'll get. Athletics could, like you said, help too about the falling damage. That would be a good idea! I mean c'mon! Try landing on ur feet without breakin any bones with an armor that is like half ur body weight!

Whats ridiculous to me, is that a character with 3 agi, no ath, and the heaviest armor on in the game is almost as fast as me with 18 agi, 6 ath, and a light armor.  I should be able to run circles around such a character.

With 3 agi and no athl. on my last build it is a significant advantage in melee having athl. as you can manouver around people. You just have to remember alot of people have it.

I totally agree with this post, except the crouching thing

Athletics should make you a damn.. athlet!  compared to people with fewer points.

Probably not possible but if people want reduction to fall damage with high athletics maybe just maybe:

At 2 Athletics you get 5% less fall damage
At 5 Athletics you get 20% less fall damage
At 8 Athletics you get 40% less fall damage

No more tough else it would make ninjas too powerful imo.

At 2 Athletics you get 5% less fall damage
At 5 Athletics you get 20% less fall damage
At 8 Athletics you get 40% less fall damage
at 3 +5%
at 5 +10%
at 8 +15% less fall damage/more jumping hight

This would be addional to what athletics does allready so i wouldn't reduce damage any more nore increase the speed.

Weigth should come more to effect so tincans are really slow, i can't get the image out of my brain 5 tincans running towards me full speed and i hadn't the smallest chance to outrun them with practicly no weight on me.

I can't see crouching coming out of the mod, nearly impossible if it wasn't implemented by the M&B devs yet.

Crouch is useless on how the game is maybe for mount & blade next expansion on sneak attacks maybe but crouching is useless apart of hiding.

crouching was just an idea but if it was someone doable it would cancel any block/attacks so you wouldn;t be able to attack/block when crouched.

would be ace just for hiding behind cover from arrows and for generally active dodging projectiles though :P

There is a big difference is base speed, but when your both running the difference really isn't that much. I agree its pretty ridiculous.

Athletics is fine atm in my opinion, but of course ninjas would never agree with that :).

bit unfair since only one of my ~6 characters is a ninja. the diff between my heavy armoured str stacked char and light armoured 9 althletics char is retarded: str char does twice as much damage and takes half damage as my ninja which makes the small speed increase look pathetic.

crouch with polearm and pike or even long 'other' weapon would be good 'turle' posture against cavalery

i think i seen it done in some other mod already

This. Battle will turn into an arcade bullcrap with backpedalling and jumps. Athletics-is-fine, period.

Bwaaa, i can not stand bunnyhoppers by now. If ther would be better jumping, then i would like to see more width rather than height.
