The lances take up two slots because its so huge, but it is unsheathable and due to its extremely slow speed, on foot it makes a poor weapon even against cav. When i unhorse lancers, its easy to ride in and stab em when they thrust their lance once as it takes forever to be able to thrust again.
Since its only the lances that get this, and its a useless weapon, you won't have archers using it all the time.
-
I'd rather they became sheathable.
-
No. :)
-
:(
sheathable is silly. it would just mean people switching out lance and 1h on the horse all the time. The unsheathable means cav has to plan a little better. If you drop your lance, you have to go find it.
2slots just limits the 2h/lancers

It's perfectly possible to bring a heavy lance and a GLA if you want.
The real problem lies with the fact you want to bring a shield too.
You just have to choose: lance+big polearm or lance/shield+tiny polearm.

i think he knows that...

All unsheathable weapons should be 1 slot and more polearms should be unsheathable. This would prevent pike/lance+bec de corbin and such combinations. Polearm users would either pick a single unsheathable weapon or an unsheathable alongside a hybrid combination. Both styles have their strengths and weaknesses.
Is lance, shield, and bastard weapon that unrealistic/unbalanced? Seems to me like a lance, shield, and longish one handed weapon (that can be used two handed once dehorsed) is the classic knightly style and should be in the game.

i made that suggestion, but people just went OMG ARCHER WILL LEAVE PIKES LYING AROUND!!!!
i thought that was a good thing, but most didnt. so i suggested just lances instead.

Most archers are not going to take polearms at all if they are unsheathable and 1 slot. Its just a waste of gold, stats, and time. If they do choose to, they'll have to camp most times. Horse archers will be able to take more arrows with their lance, or a shield, or a hafted blade, but will need to drop the weapon to use their bow. Its possible, but distracting.
I tried making a not too expensive archer/polearm and crossbowman/polearm build with the unsheathable, 1 slot in mind.

Are these builds unfair? I'm not much of a ranged char player myself, so perhaps there are more op builds that can be made, share if you can think of them.

I don't think it would be bad for gamebalance if shorter lances (right now, only the practice lance) were made to be 1 slot.
-
No, make everything one slot!

plz use a dagger
-
Don't see why not. "Can't" use them on ground, would let cav have a much wider variety of gear and builds to choose from (nevermind the upkeep).
-
lance2 slots + 1 slot shield + 1 slot 1 h.
tahts fair.
-
at least the great lances, which can't even be used to thrust might be nice to have as a 1 slot.
-
It would be cool if lances were breakable based on some damage threshold too (some mods have this already). Unsheathable, 1 slot, breakable, maybe a price reduction.

ya, and they should do less damage. and make them need minimum wpf requirement of 500

I think lances should be even 3 slots. Polearm builds are way to versatile atm

every bow should be 3 slot . archers are way too versitile.

shields and 2h too please, also 1 h please
now lets ignore jambis trollin, nm the fact that lancer is not really a polearm class as most people view it
-
Ignore this. Move on!
-
How about, just the couchable only lances.
These are both couchable only and you can't hide them in your arsehole. This weapon is 100% useless on the ground. Can those at least be reduced to 1 slot?
-
It would be good for the horseman if lances were one-slot, but it would make them over powered, I think.
-
actually the upkeep system would take care of overpowered horsemen. also, a one-slot couch only lance shouldnt be a problem
