Title: Old Strategus FAQ
Post by: Shik on July 24, 2011, 02:33:02 am
So, there has been some extensive confusion due to unexplained game mechanics. I guess this means we need a FAQ. All content in this FAQ is subject to change.

Q: What is strategus?
A: Strategus is a gamemode within cRPG where players compete for virtual land, and can accumulate virtual armies and gold on a real time map.

Q: How do I get into strategus?
A: http://strategus.c-rpg.net/ (http://strategus.c-rpg.net/)

Q: I joined strategus - how do I interact with the map?
A: To control your character, use the options on the left panel of the web page. To move to a location, use the "move character to..." button and then click on a location on the map. If you decide to move towards a specific target, you can also choose to take an action upon reaching that target, by clicking on the appropriate option in the left window. e.g: if you decide to move on top of a village, you can click on "enter village" on the left side panel to enter it as soon as you reach it. You can only interact with a target if you are within a very small distance of it.

Q: I told my character to move to a location but he is not going anywhere - why is this?
A: You cannot move your character if you are preparing for a battle or if you're inside a fief. Additionally, movement speed is currently set to 1/4 pixels per minute, so you may not notice if your character is moving or not in the short term.

Q: How does different terrain type affect my party?
A: Certain terrain types such as mountains or bridges will severely impede movement speed. Being inside terrain types such as forests will hide your character to a degree - other parties will have to get much closer before they can spot you. Being on a hill or mountain will increase your spotting range. Water and cliffs act as complete barriers - you will have to navigate around them.

Q: How do I gain strategus gold?
A: You gain strategus gold by playing cRPG - You gain 0 gold per server tick for x1 and x2 multipliers, 1 gold for x3 and x4, and 2 gold for x5. You can also gain gold by begging in a town - begging will negate the visiting fees in a village and will give you one gold per hour. However, this only works up until you have 35 gold.

Q: What can I do in towns, villages, and castles?
A: In towns, villages, and castles, you can buy and craft equipment for your army, recruit soldiers, and craft trading goods to sell for profit. Villages are best for crafting trade goods, (you want to find a low prosperity village to craft in, and a high prosperity village, town, or castle to sell in) and castles are best for recruiting troops. Towns can be used as trading hubs or storage places - you can put up items or trade goods for other players to buy in the town center, or just store them there, for a small fee.

Q: Can I be attacked while inside a settlement?
A: No. The only way you can be ejected from a settlement is if the owner kicks you out, or if you do not have enough money to pay the rent. Additionally, if you are inside a fief you are invisible on the overworld map, and can only be seen by others inside the fief.

Q: How does trading work?
A: Currently you can craft trade goods at a location on the map, and sell them in another area of the map. Sell and craft price is determined by how far away the selling location is, as well as the prosperity of the location. The farther you trade the goods, the higher distance bonus you get on the sell price.

Q: How much equipment and goods can I carry?
A: You can carry an unlimited amount of goods and equipment. However, goods will be carried as "crates" - each crate holds up to 30kg. Each unit of a trade good weighs 5 kg. All items inside crates will slow down your party. As far as equipment goes, your party will be able to carry what they can carry on their backs without penalty - extra gear will go inside crates. Having horses in your party will help alleviate the burden of carrying crates and will increase your party speed if you have enough horses for all soldiers in your party.

Q: How do battles work?
A: To initiate a battle, you must click on settlement or player and choose to attack them. When your party comes within a certain distance of your selected target, a battle will appear on the Battles list in your crpg page. This battle will take place 24 or more hours after your party reaches your selected target. Depending on where on the map your party is, the battle will take place either on EU_cRPG_3 or NA_cRPG_3. The line between EU and NA territory can be seen on this image: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4029/u32p3p1d2.jpg (http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4029/u32p3p1d2.jpg) The northeastern territories are NA, while the southwest is EU.
When your character is preparing for battle, you may hire players willing to fight for you in your strategus action page. These players will then show up on the strategus server at the scheduled time of battle, and use the equipment that your party is carrying. These players will also use the troops your character has accumulated - each troop is basically an extra life for one of your hired players. Battles are won once the enemy stops spawning - this can be achieved by eliminating all of their tickets or by capturing their spawnpoints.

Q: Why can't I join this battle?
A: To join a strategus battle you must be hired by one side beforehand. You can apply for a side in the 'battles' tab in the website. If you were already hired but later could not join, it is because you were dropped from the roster.

Q: What happens if nobody shows up for one side in a battle?
A: They lose.

Q: What happens when you lose all of your troops in a battle?
A: You are teleported to a random location on a map and lose all of your equipment.

Q: I have been attacked! What can I do? What can't I do?
A: You can buy equipment for your troops up until the time of the battle. You cannot move. You cannot transfer.

Q: I attacked an enemy and I automatically lost! Why is this?
A: In order to attack an enemy, you must have at least one third of their troop number.

Q: Why are my troops mysteriously disappearing?
A: Troops require wages. These wages are automatically paid and subtracted from your gold. If you don't have enough money to pay these wages, your troops will desert. This also applies to troops garrisoned inside fiefs. (doesn't apply to population)

Q: How do I transfer equipment, troops, and gold between players or settlements?
A: You must be within a certain distance of the target to transfer. You will then be able to see available transfer targets in your Strategus Action Menu.

Q: What is the time limit on the transfer window for a battle? Why does it say my transaction failed?
A: A party in a battle can be reinforced within a time period of the battle minus 19 hours. For example, if you attacked at 1:00 AM on Friday, and the battle is at 1:00 AM on Saturday, then you have up until Friday 6:00 AM to transfer troops and gold. If the battle is at 2:00 AM on Saturday, then you have until Friday, 7:00 AM. Additionally, the player receiving the transfers must allow incoming transfers to go through.

Q: How do I create a faction?
A: In the left side panel on the map page, you should see a link that says "My Stats." Click on this, and then click on the button that says "No Faction" in order to create a new faction.

Q: How do I join an existing faction?
A: Find a party member of the faction and get within distance of the party - you should be able to interact with their faction link and apply to join it.

Q: How do I accept people into my faction?
A: High ranking faction members can accept applicants in their strategus action page.

Q: How do I remove someone from my faction?
A: If you are high enough rank within your faction, you may set their rank to 0, which kicks them out of the faction.

Q: What do all of the faction ranks do?
A: Rank 5 can hire people for other member's battles and change the commander message. Rank 10 can change fief ownership and member ranks.

Q: What can fief owners do?
A: They can kick people out of their fiefs, raise taxes, and take gold and equipment out of their fiefs.

Q: What's the difference between troops and population?
A: troops can be removed from fiefs, population cannot. When a settlement is attacked, their force is equivalent to their population and their troops.

Q: How does AI settlement hiring work?
A: AI settlements refresh their list of applicants every hour and will select up to 90 people based on their level and hiring price. If there is a superior candidate and there are limited spaces, you may be replaced.

Q: What affects the equipment of an AI owned settlement?
A: Amount of gold and amount of troops/population.

Q: I sent some gear to an AI owned village but it didn't show up! Is this some sort of bug?
A: Every hour, neutral villages will recalculate the gear they will buy with the gold that they have. In the process, they sell all gear that they have on them for full price in order to buy new gear.

Q: Can I convert strategus gold into cRPG gold?
A: Yes, in large towns you will have to option to "send money to relatives" which converts your strat gold to cRPG gold at a 1 to 10 rate. That is, you will get 10 cRPG gold for every 1 strat gold that you convert. You can also try trading it to other players at a higher rate.

This, it would be nice to have a number to plan around if necessary.

is the pay you asked for automatically enforced and paid at the end of the battle, or can person that hired mercs choose NOT to pay?

WHY ISNT THERE TRANSACTION LOG!?!
Title: Re: Strategus FAQ

I'm pretty sure having a larger army also increases your transfer radius to other armies but the range to towns is always static.

Devs correct me if i'm wrong...

@Ronan
You know when you are hired when on the specific battle page you see "statut accepted" also you will see your name in bold in the roster.

@digglez
Commander can pay you what ever he wants, you apply for the ammount you want, and commander pay you good if you do good in battles.
AI pay you the exact ammount you aaplied (when it works).
There is no contract, if a commander didn't pay you you are free to not fight again for him, and he is free to not hire you again.

Will recruiting and working be apparent when i enter a fief?

When you travel to a fief and get close enough, it'll say on the left, "You are in the vicinity of <insert fief>".  If you click on that link, you'll then have the option near the bottom to "Enter <fief name>".

Then at the top where it says, "Your Character Page", click on that and you'll see the options to "Earn Money, Recruit Soldiers," etc.

To join a Faction, get near one of the senior members, like almost right on top of them.  Click their name on the left where it says, "You spot the part of <whoever>".  Then at the bottom click on "Join Faction."

...another VERY basic question, lol... old Hirlok never played in Strat before...

The time battles are scheduled - is that c-rpg time or local time???

Just asking because in the battle list there are several that should be over for hours already according to c-rpg time... and of course I do not want to miss my first strat battle...  :?

In order to see the correct Battle times under your "Battle" tab on c-rpg.net, go to your "Settings" tab and make sure your Timezone difference is right.

so battle times are shown in my local time, right? Timezone (-6) is correct. Just was confused because the time my char page shows in the upper left is c-rpg time, not my local time. Thanks!

Q: How do I gain strategus gold?
A: Currently, you can gain strategus gold by working inside of settlements or by playing cRPG.

....hmmmm.... so dem bloody villages charge me 100 per hour and I make 3 per hour... does not exactly work out into "gaining" gold...  Or did I miss the point of the "earn money" option?

Yeah try to avoid those if you're only working for gold.  The high-gold cost villages are that way because they usually have 90%+ recruitment chance.  If you're just trying to grind gold though, hit up the villages that are around 5g per hour cost, with higher chances to earn gold.  Takes a little hunting to find what you want sometimes.  And also be careful because not everyone is happy to have visitors in their villages.  If they ask you to leave or if they kick you out, don't go back or you'll probably get attacked.

Don't earn gold in village, go in a caste or a town for that.
Villages are good for recruiting, castles are mixed, towns are good for gold.

And not only thousands of troops, but also huge ammounts of gold, risk of failure and just wasting those resources - all for a dubious honour of owning a Town, which grants (at this moment) no additional benefits.

What does "Craft Items" mean?  My selection changed from earn gold to craft items during the day?
Title: Re: Strategus FAQ
Post by: Bjarky on October 14, 2011, 03:01:07 am
Crafting guide:
There are 2 different crafting values: The first percentage is a general percentage for this fief. It's a general yes or no random pick per hour. If this is 100%, you will get to stage 2 every hour. If this is at 0%, you will never produce anything
Then you can decide what to craft. Trading goods (the first entry) are always 100% and you always get +1. Production of those always costs the good price in the village divided by 2. You can either sell them directly to the village (low profit), sell them to a nearby village/castle/town with a higher price, or sell them to other merchants.

Then you can also produce items, accordin to your smithing skill. Smithing skill is defined by the mysterious text within crpg.
The percentage means two things: first, it means you can produce a good cheaper than buying it. When an item costs 500 gold to buy, and you have 10% smithing skill in it, you can produce it for 450 gold. Apart from that, the skill also defines how many items you produce per hour. Every hour, there is a random chance of 15% per smithing skill to produce it. so with a smithing skill of 10, you have to chances against 15% to produce the item, so you will probably get 1 or 2 of those items. You only pay when you succeed in smithing, but you pay for every item you succeed. Only produce items if you need them or you know someone who pays you more for it than it costs you to produce it. Selling it to the bank will not give you profit.

Note: this is all a work in progress, especially the crafting thing. I feel it doesn't reward enough for the smithing skill, so it will probably be somehow changed.

How do the autowin victories occur?

For example if you move across map with no troops and someone attacks you.  Are you then instantly teleported or does it take 24h to lose?  Are attackers locked in place at all?

Can I have more than one trade good at a time?

e.g.  My unpaid interns transporting 40 buckets of bull milk from Fisdnar to Praven stop in Sargoth to craft another good before continuing on their way.

If I click on "attack", does it bring up info about the person's nighttime and a definite time/day for the battle with the option to back out if there's not a convenient time?

There are no autowin victories, unless someone attacks you with much less troops, in which case it is an auto lose for the attacker, the defender can never autolose. All other rules apply.
Therefore it is probably better to have  a caravan with many troops so that way fewer people can actually engage you.

You can defend with 300 against 10,000, but you cannot attack.

You cannot carry more than one trade good at a time.

You should already see their night time if you can see the option to "attack." There is an option to cancel if you make a mistake.

Therefore it is probably better to have  a caravan with many troops so that way fewer people can actually engage you.

You can defend with 300 against 10,000, but you cannot attack.

You cannot carry more than one trade good at a time.

You should already see their night time if you can see the option to "attack." There is an option to cancel if you make a mistake.

so your saying if someone has 0 troops attacker still waits 24 hours to move again?

If I remember correctly, if you got 0 troops you gain 1 troop to defend yourself. So they still have to wait the 24 hours and fight.

Question?: the ability to travel across the water requires a boat? will boats become available only after capturing a coastal town? will owned fiefs or castles be able to make boats? and finally, how many troops/equipment/goods will fit on a boat, and how fast is it?
Oh and i think we would all eventually like to know something about roads

if their is a post on this then plz do tell

Maybe it'll be something like this:  You can buy one or two types of boats in towns.  Expensive boats get a movement speed of 250 at sea and 0 on rivers/everything else.  Cheaper boats get 150 speed on rivers, 50 at sea and 0 on everything else.  Sea battles take place on boat to boat maps like in the 1257 AD mod.

Q: What is the time limit on the transfer window? Why does it say my transaction failed?
A: The time limit is the time of the battle minus 19 hours. For example, if you attacked at 1:00 AM on Friday, and the battle is at 1:00 AM on Saturday, then you have up until Friday 6:00 AM to transfer troops and gold. If the battle is at 2:00 AM on Saturday, then you have until Friday, 7:00 AM
this seems to be out of date when it comes to attackers, wich only seem to have 2 hours to reinforce.
for defenders it's still the same.

The troops must be paid for by the fief, so you have to give troops to a village to receive that bonus.

You can't walk over rivers, the only way to pass over one is on a bridge.  If you can't see what direction you need to move to get away from the water, click on "zoom" in the Strategus Action Menu and it'll show were you are in relation to the water.  You're a tiny red dot in the center, water is aqua color and land is green.

That's a big negative.  However your strategus char does receive gold from your crpg char, and if I'm not mistaken I think now it's been changed to where you even receive gold from your alts (don't quote me on that though).

Only way to get gold on your crpg char from your strategus char is to sell it to another player for crpg gold.

Ok updated the mirror.
This is the cRPG 0.241 full download with all patches applied.

Go to your /Mount&Blade Warband/Modules/ folder and delete the cRPG folder in there.
Download http://road-house.org/crpgmirror/cRPG241.zip
Extract into /Mount&Blade Warband/Modules/ so you have a new cRPG folder in there.

the time limit depends on the battle size (even though this should be a tad higher than the current one, it's to short for big battles).
and if u try to delay by just riding around, it will be an bannable offence for delaying  :P

It doesn't really.  Each individual's exhaustion is not cumulative in a group.  If one person can recover in 5 hours, then 5 (or  100) people should be able to recover in one hour.

Its a lot easier for 1 guy to get some sleep and get up to moving at normal speed again.  A huge army ona  forced amrch has to reorganize itself after a long run, soldiers get minor injuries from forced marches (more of them, more likely some did), they outrun their supply chain and have tow ait longer for the water and food to get redistributed, etc. etc.  In many ways a forced march for a large force is definitely going to have a longer exhaustion than 1-2 guys.  So good and accurate feature.

Basically - dont quick march really large armies trying to outmaneuver someone, its going to cost you to try and force thosuands of soldiers to quickmarch/jog to a battle.

How much gold do you get from taking an npc village, castle or town?  Is there a normal amount for each type of location or does it vary depending on taxes/fees raised over time in that unique location?

Also, if you retreat as attacker during a battle, how much of your remaining equipment/troops do you lose?  Is it a certain percentage or just what you currently have equipped at the moment you retreat?

Post by: Bjarky on January 24, 2012, 02:05:43 pm
the armed thing means how much stuff each troops is carrying on it self.
if u buy head/body/foot/hand armor u will notice that the kilo's will start to grow in the menu screen under equipment, weapons do the same, but armors are heavier, so they have the biggest influence.
the more heavy it is the more u will be either light armed/armed/heavy armed or shiny army.
so it basically says if u are well equipped or not.

each troop can carry 1 of each armor type and
2 weps/shields or 2x4 ammo/throwing.

A: Yes, in large towns you will have to option to "send money to relatives"

2. If you apply and you are accepted in a battle or siege, are you going to get your reward in strategus gold or in cRPG gold? Because I already played in many battles and won sometimes but I never got the requested gold.

1: it has been deactivated a while ago.
2: reward is strat gold, u only get gold if the commander gives u gold after the fight, most people dont, plus npc fiefs never pay no matter what (bug).

no there is a battle menu in strategus where the commander can transfer it without any movement or work on your part, u can pm the commanders about your pay, but it's ultimately up to them if they want to pay u or not, fx some mercs ask way to much and will never be taken seriously.
be sure to only ask whats fair (1 to 100 gold, higher if you're top scorer etc.).

i  don't get the question . Pls elaborate.

He wants to know how to view faction's rosters without clicking 18 times and going through back doors.  Is there any other place to view them besides going to http://c-rpg.net click on the battles tab, click a battle, click a faction, then at the top click on the faction tab, and then you can look at factions here, if you click on one it shows you their roster.

Is there an easier way to get to this information? I'm assuming not.  For as much updating they've done to the website (at the expense of working on strategus) they certainly haven't made it any easier to get information.

Q: If I was to whore my main character out as a prostitute mercenary(though I'm not sure why would anyone take me but that's not the point) in strategus battles what of equipment?
Do I use equipment my main character has and uses in cRPG battles, do I need some different equipment or is my employee responsible for getting me equipment.
Also related to the question what of upkeep?

I have been looking all over, trying to figure everything out before investing time into strat. Haven't seen an answer anywhere. In a strategus battle does your character have the skill set / levels of your main character? if the owner of an army is handing out bows and you don't have power draw, are you hosed?

Yup, you use your main character and their current stats for strategus battles.  When you apply for a battle, the person hiring sees your name, level, how much pay you're requesting and any message you left in your application.  So you'd want to put info about your build in the application so they'll know if they have weapons for you, for example I'd put:

2h 21/18 3 riding - prefer cRPG gold payment

What is wrong with this crafting option, no matter what item I try to craft, no matter how much money I have, it just changes back to begging in a minute. (Jelkala is where I am at the moment)
What should I do so I could actually start using strategus more efficiently?

You need to play cRPG and get the experience ticks in order to craft/recruit in Strategus.

How do I locate myself on the map when I first enter with a new character?

There is no "center on character" button so I don't know where I am.

I have tried to "enter xxx town" on a few locations (if I can choose my own starting posistion?). This doesn't work.

"WARNING: You are not inside a fief! Get shelter at one, as they give you protection, money and recruits!"

Sure, but how?

when you just start Strategus the first time you character is already centered.

Just click "Map" one more time and your character is centered

its a white dot on map ;)

When I entered and reclick map I get centered on the small island on the very, very north-west of the continent. The island has no name nor village on it. The more or less centered in the middle of the ocean next to this island and there is no white dot to be seen. *confused* Is this really right? Furthermore clicking anything but map results in a black screen.

SoI could use a pointer or two.

I'm sitting in a town. I can buy goods in this town. That is it. I can't craft, or beg or anything.

Should I buy wares in this town and take it to another town or just sit here making money with cRPG ticks?

I'm looking into joining a clan but I'd like to find out a little bit more about the life of an independent player as well.

Thanks.

u cant craft anymore.
u can only buy weps from fiefs.
caravan system should work, so if u buy some goods inside one fief and sell then further away, u get a bonus, also make sure to sell it at a place with either the same goods price or higher to get more profit.

Fiefs are Villages, Castles and Towns. All of them are player owned.

A caravan is when you buy goods in one fief and then move to another that's far, far away. You then get a distance % bonus when you sell them.

Before you would have to go the the fief to check the price there, now you can just click on the fief on the map and it will give you the "price" in that fief. Note that the "price" is only the base price, so distance bonus is not shown there.

"Q: Can I convert strategus gold into cRPG gold?
A: Yes, in large towns you will have to option to "send money to relatives" which converts your strat gold to cRPG gold at a 1 to 10 rate. That is, you will get 10 cRPG gold for every 1 strat gold that you convert. You can also try trading it to other players at a higher rate."

Its possible in villages too. If you're in the equipment screen set the amount of an item you want to sell and press TAB. A new edit box appears with the price. Change it to some higher value and press sell... voila... its in the towncenter. As Tomas wrote in the FAQ, you get the money only when someone buys it for this price.

And why would anyone want to do this? You don't use items for crafting any more? Will these items keep their distance bonus so you can continue hauling them even farther away and gain even more distance bonus on them? That is the only reason I can think of.

I don't exactly know what it is for, except maybe make advertisement for your fief all over the world.

I think it might be useful if you put up some better weapons for a special price so everyone sees they can be bought in your fief.

That could be it. Buying better made stuff from far away later on in the campaign.

When you enter the weapon and inventory menus, sometimes gear have a double white circle with a red "v" in them. What does this represent?

This displays the loom status of the item.
What you saw means that the item's status is -2. If it is on normal status, nothing is displayed but the weapon and if it has a positive loom status, you will see green + icons on it.

A: To join a strategus battle you must be hired by one side beforehand. You can apply for a side in the 'battles' tab in the website. If you were already hired but later could not join, it is because you were dropped from the roster."

I don't quite get this. I signed up, was accepted, entered the right server to duel before the battle. When it was time for the battle I was kicked from the server and got the following report:

"Performance:You did not show up!"

If I wasn't selected or there was no battle I don't know but I showed up. Do I need to do something in the duel server to enter the proper battle or what went wrong?

in easy:

you only had to rejoin the Duel Server (EU 3 or NA 3) and than you are in the battle
