I've posted this before, but I haven't been able to find the thread again.
I was thinking of a 20 second warm up at the beginning of each map before the first "official" round starts. Like TF2s "waiting for players..." phase, or Unreal's "awaiting other players..." phase.
This will serve two purposes :
- Allowing people to download the maps when the servers are updated, so they won't miss the first spawn (will also save them from getting spawn raped by cav that might load in faster)
- This will allow Banner Balance to kick in for the first round.
At the end of the 20 second warm up phase, players will be subject to Banner Balance and will be balanced INTO the first "official" round of the map. Which will be beneficial to clan members who are interested in working together on the pub servers without having to wait one round while they wait for Banner Balance to kick in.
Thoughts?
Edit; Please vote on this, if we're lucky, the wonderful devs will see this!
If you think that the time should be something other than 20 seconds, please post with a good explanation as to why it should be the number you suggest. That way, there's at least some reason to your ideas too!
If no, obviously, reasons would be nice

I've been for this, but don't know if it is possible

maybe that mythical WSE could save the day, when the knights of the round table unearth it
-
I have a fast connection but downloading any new map except really small ones takes more than 20 seconds. And everyone else would have to wait for that time on any new map, thats just a waste of time in my opionion.

This :)
-
It would also fix the "doors and gates have less hp on the first round" thing that happens in siege servers. Too bad. :/
-
This :)
Great idea, lets try and see if its possible. :)
-
I want this SO badly. It's very useful for everybody and their kittens.
-
Especially the kittens.

So teambased games like CS & TF that outnumber cRPG by magnitudes must not be doing something right, eh?
20 seconds allows TEAMS to scramble together basic initial plans based on the map that just got loaded. And THOSE players even have the benefit of knowing which map will be next (due to admin plugins) since they're maps actually have friggin NAMES not ###

As I never played these, I could not know.

Do it! do it!

Oh deard god yes. Please do this.
Even if its impossible do it. Fuck impossibility!

Bump for buttocks

+1

But..but.. who will poor Maganda kill in that case?
-
this is really needed. games without it suck and it should be standard by these days.
-
Update with poll.
Also bump for buttocks.
-
Yes please so I can actually play the game instead of sitting at the spawn covering the slow spawners
-
The only down side I'd see is, people would just TK the fuck out of each other. It's like taking friendly fire off on Counter-Strike: Source. People are going to die, son. Most likely me. I don't like that. Other than that, this is a pretty good idea.
-
You could try to establish common team tactics like waiting together at the spawn in the first round for the first minute. But then again, we all know it won't work.

Topic changed to reflect suggestion

I said 'Yes' to the poll, although I think 20 seconds might not be long enough. I might lean towards 30 seconds.

+1

Wow a good idea actually appeared in the forums
-
Is it possible?
-
Dooo ettt

Great idea
-
Is it possible?
its already done for strategus matches, no reason why it can be done on normal servers
-
no, how will i couch lance people that are just spawning in otherwise?
-
Want that !
-
herp.
Even more relevant now with the whole "reset multiplier" thing.

Only usefull necro thread on the forum
cRPG could really use this system but i don't think its possible because it would be kinda obvious the devs would have added it by now if it was possible :?:
-
Awesome necro.
Make the first preliminary round have no impact on multi, but still award XP like normal to compensate for the map change delay.
Sounds like a good idea to me! 30 sec is plenty of time, considering you also have an additional (90 sec?) to spawn in when the "real" game begins.
-
I fucking want this.
-
I'm pretty sure almost everyone wants this but it may be impossible sad sad day :/

Another one, in case.
Better continue the discussion here, than letting Panos continue an interesting idea on his thread.

lol Okay.
I don't understand what the difficulty is with programming in an extra round though. I have almost no experience in programming, so I can't really wrap my mind around the issue of putting in a 20 second spare round in front of the regular rounds.
I mean, we have the "30 seconds left to spawn" in DTV, so why not just kill everyone at the end of the first round, and banner balance them to the correct team afterward ?
-
Or just bring it back so you can go spectator (or just not spawn a round) and you still keep your multiplier. Problem solved.
If you actually balanced the teams based on skills/atttributes, equipment equipped, and K:D ratios (rather than mainly balancing on banners) then you wouldn't have the problem of people waiting the first round until they are balanced with their banner buddies.
Then you could remove the "multiplier" reset bullshit.

Dextaa you renown whore.
But it is really a good suggestion.

Well, there's also already good arguments in thoses little 4 pages, so might as well read them and such. But it's the same suggestion anyway, so it's for the best !
Unite the threads !

I agree with Dexxta, and this post about speccing in before the round.

Dude this post was 2 years ago

And this topic is STILL relevant. Am I a visionary or what
