Title: Repair Costs
Post by: Hemingway on July 11, 2011, 06:02:34 am
I know this is going to sound like whining but the repair costs after the patch are crazy! Two rounds and I was down 4k in repairs.

My equipt

Klappevisor
Miadao
Heavy Throwing Axes
Strange Greaves
Mail Gloves
Light Kuyak

At most I was looking at 800 per round but 2k per seems a little extreme. Especially for us noobs who don't have much gold to begin with.

Yup, the new repair costs are forcing a significant drop in armour. However, new battles are going rather quick...

True but I guess the question now becomes why even offer plate anymore? Or higher end armors and weapons? It almost seems like they become next to useless.

I can't even imagine what the upkeep is for cav...

You just need to play with weaker gear for some time to earn money.

You already lose money wearing anything more than mid tier armor so i really don't see the point of boosting up the prices... cost me 1273gold for a danish greatsword, 1303gold for my heavy gauntlets, 1000 something for a Rus scale armor... at this rate my little 74k gold won't last long

What about timed repair times if something breaks instead of insta fix repair? That way even if those people with 4 million gold has something break they can't live on that pile of gold they will have to choose another armour for a wihle.

Really, the problem is that income is based on TEAM performance, while repairs are on an INDIVIDUAL basis. A small run of bad luck, and I was unable to sustain padded/leather armor, with a Great Long Bardiche. It went to unusable and I only had a few hundred gold. I was forced to sell my Haraldic Mail in order to buy a cheap weapon to use, just to get some sort of upkeep.

So are repair rates just random or is it based on death? So for the noob questions

It used to be a 4% chance per tick for a repair that cost 5% of the base price. Now it is about 7.5% of the base price, repairs supposedly happen slightly less often, and arrows break almost every round.

Didn't your equipment also used to break more often if you were to lose? Like an extra x% or something, and if so is it still like that now?

I did the calculations, it is 8%.

As for the chances of broken equips? Not sure..

I went to normal arrows because i was sick of paying 808-1212 per round on top of the random absurd amount for my bow

I am using this on my shielder and still loosing money.

Lether Jerking 669 Gold /8% Repair: 53 Gold
Rus Cavalry 412 Gold /8% Repair: 33 Gold
Nordic Lether Helmet 361 Gold /8% Repair: 29 Gold
Leather Gloves 289 Gold /8% Repair: 23 Gold
Nordic Champion Sword 9285 Gold /8% Repair: 742 Gold
Huscarls Round Shield 6458 Gold /8% Repair: 517 Gold

Sum :1397 Gold

That means I can lose every round around 1,4k Gold if I am unlucky.
With the new patch I am a 1-Shot-Victim and have to pay so much gold for it... Also the shield breaks faster than prepatch... perhaps it has to do with the enormous dmg of Archers and the new OP trowers.
Look at the gear its very low and the armor does not give good protection...

I totally agree with the repair bills.  Now i dont think throwers are OP anymore.  I was playing 1 pre patch and new patch people bitch b/c they actually stand some what of a chance now.

I am a new player so obviously I don't know how things used to be but I can tell you that I no longer wear armor.  I use the noob duds because I wanted to save up for a decent horse.  But there is often times I lose cash with only a shield, sword and throwing axes equipped.  No other gear.  They are decent items those three so if two break on me in a round,  I have had to pay 800 in single fight.   Probably not much for some but its wallet busting to me.   So even the new players are feeling the pain that all the veterans are complaining about in matches.

And this is why I dislike the new upkeep.
I already own every piece of gear I will ever use on ever single one of my alts besides my new shielder who is still saving up for some lol-plate for lol-moments.

For new players, the new upkeep makes it impossible to save up for new gear AND wear something better then rags,

At the moment im like "fuck it" and run around in peasant gear and with an Long Hafted Spiked Mace in order to save up some gold to use my normal gear again in the future.
I guess i bought that warhorse just at the wrong moment.

I've been playing for about a month now and my main has accumulated about 150k in two generations. The way I did that was to run around in peasant gear and a mid-range 2h sword until level 25 until I put on my default gear. Generally speaking, with my usual gear (Klappvisier, Heraldic mail, Wisbys, Shynbauls, and Danish) I would wander between breaking even or losing a bit if I was on the losing team, to generating decent coin if I ran with a good team to play with. Now, its an entirely different story.

I find that the repairs don't come as often, however the cost is like being hit by a truck. With my usual gear unless I'm getting a good multi I'm bleeding cash. As a person that isn't going to sell their loom points (my main weapon is only +1) I feel that I'm forced to wear crappy gear more often just to support my cash balance. And as a player that can be considered more casual than hardcore, that's a big turn off. The game is starting to get that second job feel to it.

If this is linked to Strategus, wouldn't it have been wiser to do it when Strategus was closer to release or when it came out? The veterans with millions won't feel burdened by this, its the new and casual players that have been given the shaft.
