2x I found the best as well, not too grindy but not too hectic either.

With a group your perspective is probably much different. we could apportion tasks like; "You gather ironstone, you search for the rarer thralls (taskmaster, cook etc.), you get hide and stone."
For solo play though, x2 felt just right.

A friend has said he'll play on launch day with me, we need to decide on a server type and rates. The developers have said somewhere in a blog post that there won't be any official increased rate servers at launch, so we may have to go with x1 anyway, unless we play on unofficial servers.
Maybe you are not bad, but you are a boring person. Well, that's the end of the matter.

We're still undecided on the server ourselves. I was leaning more towards the PVE Conflict as I'm not that fond of PVP all the time.

Yeah I only played solo so far, I'll be playing in a small group (about 2-4 players) with release but I think 2x is still nice for that.

Also, didn't know they're removing Fast servers, was hoping to play on an official 2x.

Even with a large group I preferred playing 2x or higher server, it's not just the resource gathering increase but the leveling increase itself, which actually opens up options to advance regardless of resource. The "Journey" steps will take some of the sting out of the 1x pace server as they are great for leveling, but that is also a fairly railroaded method or idea, for what is supposed to be a sandbox. Groups suffer less on the resource grind obviously, but having more members doesn't mean you are going to level faster and unlock more crafting options for the actual progress, it just means you are going to be able to craft that shit quicker when you do unlock it, compared to a solo or duo.

Guess we'll see how it plays out, but from my experience with the game, 1x is slow on all accounts.

So what is your opinion on the loss of the PvE-Conflict servers?

Personally it doesn't effect me since a friend and I decided to roll on a PvE server just to check out the PvE content (Dungeons etc.)
I was leaning on rolling on PvE-Conflict though, glad I didn't.

They changed the pve-conflict servers into pvp servers because they were high in demand....

So many people are raging in their forum. I would too considering we were going to start the game tomorrow on such server. What a stupid decision to change the hybrid servers into pvp servers instead of getting more servers. Their reasoning was that they checked and found that pvp servers where full all the time while pve-conflict servers where half full. Those servers are perfect for people that can't play for long hours, I really hope they add them back else you have to join a community server.

Honestly, in these types of games you are better off finding a decent community server with active Admins anyway, that way if anyone is cheating on the server there might be an admin around to ban them instantly before they can destroy the server.

So what's the combat like? What are the consequences of dying?
Meaning lies as much
in the mind of the reader
as in the Haiku.

Combat is "soulslike", as in there's light attacks and heavy attacks which can be combo-ed together. Weapon types have different animations even for blocking (2h weapons have a kick), and armor type affects dodge animation.

Like in all(?) survival games, death penalty is going back to loot your body.

It's kinda like Dark Souls, a budget version of it I'd say. Consequences of dying are you lose everything you had on you at the time.
