Is there a apecific horse that gives a good bonus for transporting crates? I was going for sumpter or rouncey but I'm not quite sure.
Thx for help

donkey's are the most efficient, they are as good with transport speed as rouncey's and cheaper than sumpters.

They fixed donkeys?
For all the non-believers, look no further than this thread for proof that while strat battles are won/lost in NA3/EU3, strat wars are won and lost on the forums.

Does the horse quality matter? If I use tattered donkeys would I go just as fast?

It'd be nice to have this information up in a sticky or something. Maybe compile all the retarded Strat info from old Strats and stuff into one, single post up there.

I remember donkeys in strat 4 gave no "horse" bonus what so ever...can you confirm that has been fixed?  Have you actually tested it?

So this is the vibe I'm getting. If you have 1000 man army. It moves same rate with 10 horses as 0 horses?

Yes, pretty sure it would move the same speed with 999 horses as 0 horses.

Army without horses, without crates: "normal" speed
Army without horses, with crates: speed penalty
Army with more horses than crates: lesser speed penalty
Army with more horses than crates and troops combined: speed bonus.

Army with as many or more horses than whichever is the higher value of troops or crates: speed bonus

Having any horses when you have crates might also lower your penalty somewhat.

Sumpter horses give a lower amount of speed bonus when in greater numbers than troops/crates, but otherwise operate the same as normal horses as far as I can tell.

Equipment weight and army size will also affect your speed.

There is a lot more information on caravaning thanks to the new "Party - General" interface.

Every horses (including donkeys) can carry 1 crate.
1 crate of good or 1 crate of weapons/armors that cant fit on your troops (the not "worn" items).

Donkeys - Sumpters = slow horses (low speed bonus)
Rounceys and above = fast horses (high speed bonus)

Army with more horses than crates: lesser speed penalty
Army with more horses than crates and troops combined: speed bonus.

Everything you said except this is right.

Actually you have to have as much or more horses (>=) than you have troops OR crates, whatever is the higher (not combined).
Like you said, army size and weight matters so, if you have say, 1000 troops and 1000 crates crates and you have 1000 horses, you will go at your maximum possible speed, but still lesser than if you had 100 troops instead of 1000 (each troop "weight", + their equipment).

Still, in my first example, you dont need 2000 horses with your 1000 troops and 1000 crates.

Virtually, it works like this:

- every trooper are atop the best horse available
- every horse carry 1 crate maximum on the side

thus if you have 1000 troops, and 1000 crates, each horse will have a mounted soldier, + 1 crate attached to it, and will go at maximum speed.
This is the capacity of horses, and having 1 horse with only 1 troop on it and no crate, or 1 crate and no troop, will not go faster.

@Butan, you state donkeys are slower on the map than rounceys, have you checked this as of late?
Cus i did an speed test with goods&animals in this strat version and it showed that donkeys where as fast as rounceys.
So unless this got changed again within the last 1-2 months, donkeys should still be the most efficient transporters.

I didnt check the speed of them but I have 99 donkeys and 1 rouncey in my actual army and they are showed like this on the interface:
(I removed other informations for my security)

So pretty sure thats how it works.
Didnt check sumpter but because it was documented as "slower" than rounceys in strat 4, I think they are to be put in the "slow" category too.

Maybe the difference between "slow" and "fast" is null, but then why would it be displayed as different? If what you say is true it must be a bug or a forgotten feature ^^
