Converted: 2
Ironflesh: 3
Power Strike: 5
Shield: 7

I currently have the normal crossbow(middle tier i guess). was wondering if there is any reason not to use the best crossbow given the chance.

If you want to be really quick, you may have to compensate for the weight of your shield.

It's very hard to suggest a specific armor but something that fit your style in the low-mid range (between light strange and sarranid guard) should be allright.

Thanks for the response  :D Now as far as a crossbow and sword goes. Right now i'm using the scimitar. Is there a limit of what crossbows i can use while retaining my speed? Is there another melee weapon i should pick up down the road to replace the scimitar? Sorry for all the noob questions but i got this game/mod about 3 days ago.

Scimitar is fast but it's light and dont hurt a lot.

You may find yourself glancing on plated knights... and glancing sucks!

My shielder friend dropped the scimitar and took the elite scimitar but there is so many 1h out there...

Long espada Eslavona is popular for the poke, Steel pick is popular for headshoting heavy armored guys, broad one hand battle axe is popular to break shields...etc.

Either Pilgrim Disguise (3 Weight, more or less no body armor), Padded Vest/Kaftan (4,5/5 Weight, decent body armor) or one of the Lamellar Vests (9,5 weight, 36body armor and +infinite style points).

Lamellar is ugly, use the (color) tunic over mail, same armor, no ugly.

If you want something ligher go for the padded stuff or the studded leather coat.

All armor is good depending on your playstyle.
Style points are most important. DOES IT LOOK AWESOME? Y/N
Better be a yes.

Go for fashion points, not k/d, because that is what really matters.

This game is like glorified dress up game with combat.
Red dresses don't show much blood, but man does a wedding dress get ruined after 5 murders.

but man, you already have the style... Keep your strange armor with your shield, just change your scimi for an axe (even more stylish with strange armor) add to this a hat or a great helmet and here we go!!

And some ppl speak of historical accuracy and immersion when you want to add roman armor...

Steel pick and heraldic mail with tabard or heraldic transitional.

With 5 ps a sword just wont cut it ;)

I used 5 ps with steel pick for along time and had easily 10+

Steel Pick + Heraldic Mail

Heraldic transitional armor will be impossible due to upkeep for the rest of your gear.
If you have any gold left - take a "normal" Crossbow. Light Crossbow is ok, but you will need to pick your targets :)

I'm hate hate HATE glancing, and with 5 ps it's going to be a very real possibility against heavy armor with cut damage.  Looking at your build from my perspective, I think you have a few options.  I ordered these from my best to worst, but keep in mind preference and playstyle might make you value these differently.

- Blunt damage: Warhammer (or Iberian Mace for style points).  Crap range, but won't glance and will do work.  Will also knockdown surprisingly often.  As a bonus they look pretty cool, but if you aren't used to the short reach you'll need to practice keeping people in range and knowing your limits.

-Pure Pierce damage: steel/military pick for weapon.  Same pros and cons as above basically.  Personally I think they are garbage in the looks department, but some people find them more difficult to block due to their size, so you might end up landing more hits with these.  Still pretty cookie cutter.

-Heavy cut damage: Various axes/ Military Cleaver / Grosse Messer.  A bit more range than the options above and the high cut damage should help you avoid glancing.  As a bonus you'll beat down agi builds in light armor with the high cut.  Using an axe would be my first choice in this group, since you'll end up breaking enemy shields quicker than they'll take down your 7 skill point shield as an added benefit.   Against heavy armor you'll probably have to hit them a bunch of times however, so be ready for some endurance fights.

-Piercing swords:  Long Espada Eslavona/Side sword/Espada Eslavona. Not my playstyle, but if you do a lot of thrust attacks these might be good options.  The long espada eslavona has the benefit of reach which you'll be able to take advantage of with your 7 athletics.  Keep in mind these will glance on heavy armor with side swings especially if you aren't in the correct position.

Armor is harder to recommend because there are so many different possible styles.  A rule of thumb that I follow is the higher your HP, the heavier armor you wear.  It might seem counter-intuitive at first, but the way I see it is if you have low hp you're going to be 2 shot most of the time anyways so you might as well maximize the speed advantage you have and only wear light stuff.  In the meantime, the more hp you have the more chances you give your armor to absorb blows, and surviving 2-3 hits in light armor will then translate into surviving 3-5,6 hits in heavy stuff.

I'm no expert on crossbows, but I like the light crossbow myself to use as a supplement.  Just keep in mind you'll probably be most effective with your sword and your athletics and high shield, while spending a bunch of time shooting and reloading will open you up to being picked off by range.

Whatever people say, in the end, a highly skilled shielder will do best with a sword with 100+ reach imo.
Don't mind the fish.
