Respect was a good idea.
But it's too bad there's some people who just go through all the posts of their friends to +1 them. It's suppose to show something, and it does. It shows the number of supporter you have behind you, and how much you yourself is ready to give back thoses +1. Just one word : lame.
*cough* polkafranzi-ming *cough*
But thank you two for making us realize that this is still not a perfect system)
To prevent thoses kind of things, it would be interesting if a person can only change the total of one's respect by one : +1 or -1.
Some examples :MrA finds MrB first post good : +1 respect.
He finds his third, fourth and fifth post awesome : +1 respect for all three.
Total respect from MrA to Mr B : (+4) positive => +1 respect.
MrC fins MrB first post good : +1 respect.
He finds his second, third and fourth post terrible : -1 respect.
Total respect from MrC to MrB : (-1) negative => -1 respect
So if i put a +1 on a dozen of posts from the same person, then that person got +1 respect from me. But to change that, i'll need to put -1 on a dozen+1 posts of him, or delete my previously given respect. This way, the impact of the community is bigger than the impact of friends/trolls.
What do you think ? Codable ? Not too-much time consuming ? Since we keep track of who voted what, it may be possible.
