since some of you were mentioning diablo 1+2 here I strongly recommend you the mod "Back to Hellfire" for Diablo 2 if you think about playing it again. Its basicly recreation of Diablo 1 with  features and engine Diablo 2. Very well balanced and very hard and it captures much of the atmosphere and creepiness of the first title. I spent over a year back in 2008 playing and trying different chars. and the books are back! Mod is no longer worked on and of course no active community but I had a hell of a fun playing it with a friend over ip-connection.

Other than that most important games were mentioned. I still wait for an rpg on par with Baldurs Gate 2 especially in therms of story and atmosphere, perhaps combined with a warband-like combat system...

Rise of Nations, playing with friends never gets old.

We just played a 2!! hours long game against a moderate!! opponent and an easy one.

The AI is very smart in that game, lol.

uh, I never played any other mod than BTH and its not like the others with lots of "uber-stuff", rather the opposite, more atmospheric, more basicly. but thanks for the tip anyways, i might have a look if got the time.

Titan Quest and the addon Immortal Throne.
Dont understand why nobody knows this game. The multiplayer is nice and there are many funny mods.
The only problem is that 90% of the TQ player are cheating. 
But anyway,it is a really good game and it is sad that there wont be a second TQ.

The multiplayer is awesome, and we also have a huge community of people in a forum, won't post it in here but if you get it and you want to talk to people about it pm me and I shall give you the link BECAUSE GOD WILLS IT! (I know im sorry.)
And also it has huge amounts of mods and custom maps, do you know why there are huge amounts of custom maps?
Because the map creator is the most simplestic tool i've ever seen!

Just found this game again:Blitzkrieg.

It's a quite old (2002) WW2 Strategy game but I'm amazed by it, the special "drawn" graphics give a cool atmosphere, the gameplay is fantastic, and the voice acting is very professional.

To hell with Company of Heroes, this is the real shit.
(Don't get me wrong, I like CoH, but o.o this is amazing)
