I watched that movie, and while i think it failed as a horror flick, i did enjoy the characters. It felt relateable for once in a long time, and i had a hunch something like that article would pop up. The white family with a strong masculine male lead and a motherly female is always going to be criticised now i guess, though the success of the movie probably outshines the shitty article.
