Im also confused why the law seems to punish the one purchasing sex rather than the one selling it. Seems to me as if its treating women like kids, and men like conciously evil.
think about this from the point of view of whatever municipality or local authority is doing the actual enforcement of law. if you bust a freelance or kept hooker, you're gonna put them in the jail for a while and maybe (but unlikely) be able to extort some income from them via fines, probation, court, etc. if you leave homegirl alone but bust even 1/10 of the johns she gets, you can extort a fuckton more income (since these people have jobs and bank accounts more frequently than hookers) and make more arrests which will make the department look better
in the United States, it is absolutely standard practice for law enforcement, themselves aware of the activity+location of an active drug dealer, to observe and WAIT until the drug deal is concluded. but why would they do this? don't they want to keep the drugs off of the streets? ya know, to protect the citizenry from dangerous addictive substances?
well gee, if you roll up and nab the drug dealer before he makes the sale you very well might keep the drugs off of the street. but what you WON'T do is receive a large cut of the drug money for yourself and your department through civil asset forfeiture. of course, all those funds are gonna go straight into the best tools of the trade to keep our beloved State Security Officials from the nefarious War on Police that the TV tells me about sometimes. you know, just the bare essentials like MRAPS, high explosives, multiple SWAT teams, over-paid consultants and trainers, HK416 carbines, etc.
