Interestingly I've just discovered that cos of the algorithm the Wayback Machine uses to take snapshots, certain threads on the old forum were actually active enough at certain times to be archived. The forum peaked at late August/early-September and some of the more popular threads survive (though not all pages). It's been a fun read.
I have to agree with what you said above but with one big addition both from memory and evidenced by the pages archived.
- Only one person even mentioned the Steam page on launch, and it was Jambi. And nobody argued with them (apart from one randomer from outside the community who very politely disagreed), and nobody backed Jambi up, and nobody upvoted Jambi (apart from Gravoth's token vote). Because it was Jambi.
I think some of the people claiming they voiced prophetic words of wisdom on launch need a little reality check.
Let's see what the cRPG community had to say in the
"Combat too different than Mount and Blade" thread from the 20th August:
https://web.archive.org/web/20160904034656/http://forum.ofkingsandmen.net:80/index.php?topic=843.0The only ones in this community who can claim they voiced their doubts in this thread are Neresto, Painmace (tho he later retracts) and Jona (although still holding out hope).
Let's see what the cRPG community had to say in the
"OKAM Released on Steam!" page on 25th August:
https://web.archive.org/web/20160831085459/http://forum.ofkingsandmen.net:80/index.php?topic=1023.0Again, only Jambi seemed to have an issue with the page, in the thread talking about the page. I remember skimming the post at the time but it was Jambi so there was really nothing to say.
And the cRPG community's response to "The Epic (Fail) Launch":
https://web.archive.org/web/20160910120110/http://forum.ofkingsandmen.net:80/index.php?topic=1521.30Of course as you can see I'm overwhelmingly defending the devs, whilst the rest of you clamour to give your real opinions xD
Sep 02, 2016, 09:57 amWouldn't be the first big countdown timer that wasn't 100% accurate xD
Just in general avoid those.
To this day the cRPG forum still has 00:00:00 across the top banner because we had a countdown once that also ended with a lot of waiting.
3 pages in and we must be the first non-'we love you donkeys' posts in that thread. Wassat? I guess I claim joint credit for one of the first post-fail roasts.
