Conor would still win if he didn't take it to the ground, I think. He should've mantained distance and stay on the defense, preparing a BLAM out of nowhere to take Diaz down, but he didn't plan for the fight to go that way and was in no state to improvise at the end. He looked like he just chugged a gallon of whiskey, when he started wobbling, fucking hilarious.
There was also a chance for him to end the fight in the first round, when Diaz left himself exposed for Conors left hand and honestly it might have been a bait, but I think it's more likely Conor wanted to make a big fight of it to make up for Aldo and that cost him the ultimate price.
Cutting weight again is a stupid move, he should stay where he is and get gud, let them take the belt, he can take it back, when he's also got the lightweight belt. His decision to return to defend it, just erases all the hype and unpredictability.
