Berenger, it is 30s in America. Not 2015 in some Mexican state controlled by cartels. They smuggle alcohol and they are trying to keep it down, not alert the police on every corner. There is a difference when you are on your own turf, where you call the shots and control the police and when you are on a mission somewhere you can be busted by cops and endanger the mission. There are both those types of missions in first Mafia, as game progresses you can a lit more of those action in your face type of missions.

This Mafia 3 currently has some hilarious car explosion mechanic. Basically all you have to do is to bump any car and it will explode. Dunno what they were thinking...

You can apply that for every game where you're a criminal. The system is okay. But having it in a game with a shit ton of driving is annoying.

Have you all forgotten what Angelo's profession was before he became a made man?

Mafia 1 had a decent-good story. But the music wasn't as good as the 2nd one. And the gameplay wasn't nearly as good as the 2nd one either. And most importantly. Mafia 1 felt like a driving game where driving was the main focus. The driving was annoying as well since you had to keep a check on the speed limit so the cops wouldn't fine you. A nice system but in a game where there's tons of driving it's a bit annoying than challenging. If you're playing a game where you play as the mafia you'd rather have more up close action than driving around like the taxi driver you used to be.

I'm disappointed that they didn't stick with the 50s setting.

Well Berengerrrrr, blame the devs for that one.

But there is reasoning behind it. Would you put a full-time driver new to this whole gang thing on the frontlines immediately? Especially if he has talent.. yeah, not.

I know it's a game and all that, but things like this is what made Mafia so good.

Gd point but still. Vito in Mafia 2 wasn't a taxi driver yet I see some ppl complaining about it not being like Mafia 1.

Anyhow. Too busy talking to biased Czech kids on Youtube who thinks Italian-American mobsters living in the US should speak Czech ''because it sounds so much better than the English dubbing''

This reminds me of the time I heard czech voiceover on a world of tanks video (or at least I think it was czech)

Now not to trash the language, but it sounded so out of place ridiculous :D

I am with Berenger on this, speeding fines in Mafia 1 did not make for a better game play experience and overall it wasnt as good as Mafia 2.  2 was better because it gave a more open and well rounded experience of playing as a mobster in, IMO, a better setting for a mobster.  I would say that a Mafia franchise game should be about creating a richly crafted GTA style game in an appropriate time setting, not about making people drive at 20MPG, on the wrong side of the road, stopping at every red light in case an invisible policeman slaps you with a bullshit fine. I want to be a goodfella, a wiseguy, I want to be made part of the family so I can fuck with people and they don't fuck with me, that is surely what 'Mafia' should be about?

As I said earlier the setting for this one is stupid and they overlooked some really good settings for an awesome mob based video game, Casino LA, Goodfellas Brooklyn, or Scarface Cuba. That said I do like the look of the idea of having your own mobster 'family' and if the driving/shooting mechanics looks like they will make for enjoyable game play I will most certainly pick this one up.

You were 9 years old when that game came out. If you played it when it was few years old game, I can understand your view. Just like I can understand Berenger.

I was already in high school and previously seen Godfather series and Goodfellas and played Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto 2 and Grand Theft Auto 3. I was blown away with Mafia and liked every part of it.

You punks weren't ready for it, that's all.

Or you and Berenger are actually full of shit and never played Mafia but heard it is legendary game, then played Mafia II and share this opinion:

Quote
2 was better because it gave a more open and well rounded experience of playing as a mobster in

Makes perfect sense now.

No thanks. In a Mafia game I want to play an italian mobster not Malcolm X. Still gonna pirate it and see if the driving mechanics are any good.

Also Mafia > Mafia 2.
