Looks awful from what I saw on Twitch.

Well from what I saw it wasn't exactly fantastic but it was still better than pretty much all the other MMO survival bullshit games, it's fairly unique mechanics wise and the setting seems to be done fairly well. Though it's obvious this game is going to be plagued with Midgets on flying Dinosaurs just like Reign of Kings is plagued with black midgets ( being as black as possible in RoK makes you invisible at night and being tiny makes you harder to hit with ranged weapons with minimal downsides )

That awkward moment where both release times have passed and game is still unavailable to purchase...

There has only been one release time, that would have been about 6-7pm for us mate, i.e when the Steam servers update or whatever that magic is Steam does, but it got delayed because the devs were doing some testing on their servers or some bollocks, it should be available at about 10pm.

But I am wondering if that's completely true or not, because this would mean that the Steam servers now contain all the game files ready to upload, so why they wouldn't just unlock it and allow people to buy it and download it ready for when their servers are ready, considering they have nothing to do with each other. Wondering if they've had an unforeseen issue and we might see another delay lol.

Yeah they missed the first release time but the second was actually 10pm+, we are in BST now which is GMT +1 .  Though they've missed it again because they're apparently still doing stuff and it "should be up shortly", which means it could be up anywhere between now and next year. Probably grab this one tomorrow I am tired now lol.

Okay so I played it for a while and I have to say I did have a lot of fun. Yes it's Early Access, it has some glitches/bugs as to be expected, the performance is pretty bad but as they said they haven't worked much on optimization but it is now their number 1 priority. The UI is a bit ugly but it's obviously not a major issue and I am sure it'll be altered.

Well, gameplay wise, it is good fun, people can say it's DayZ, Rust, Stomping Lands copy etc etc but it does feel very unique. The combat isn't amazing or complicated by any means but it was pretty responsive compared to many other of these Survival MMORPGs I have played, that being said it's a lot of fun. I found a couple of guys, one was Russian and one German, we made a tribe and a small base of operations and we just hunted a whole lot of shit and gathered resources. We went into the sea and managed to kill two giant sharks by luring them to the shore, stabbing them with our Spears and shooting them with Slingshots which was pretty funny, the Russian guy got eaten in the process.

Killing the Dinosaurs was fun, I threw some spears into a Stegasaurus's butt and we also hunted some players. We found one guy by the beach and the Russian guy shot him in the face with the OP Slingshot, it knocked him out instantly and we dragged him back up the beach to our house. We took him inside, layed him on the bed and shitted on him ( literally, your character automatically shits every now and then but you can also trigger it at certain times with the Z key ). Hee woke up after a while of us pissing about with him, we punched him out again and then dragged him outside where we used him as target practice for Spear throwing, he died pretty quick.

Certain creatures/dinosaurs will also fight eachother as well, but the real lure for me is the fact you can tame a whole bunch of them. It's a slow process and it's going to be difficult to tame the bigger and more dangerous Dinosaurs but it will be awesome once you obtain one. They level up just like you and of course as shown in the trailer can be ridden if you have a saddle for them. The saddles require higher levels to craft though so I imagine the real mounts of the game will be more of a high level/end game thing. Some Dinosaurs/Creatures have their own abilities, like the Dilophosaurus, that little one from Jurassic Park that spits shit in your eyes, I also saw a giant scorpion thing that has a sting that can paralyze, which could actually be very useful for helping to knock out and tame a Carnivore.

I only managed to tame a low level Parasaurolophus ( being low level myself and the fact it's a pretty whimpy Herbivore ) but it was fun getting it to follow me around, carry my shit and help me kill things.

My verdict is, it's a fairly decent game but don't buy it yet if you want good performance, even a lot of monster rigs aren't running this game smoothly on highest settings and cheaper systems struggle to run it smoothly even on lower settings, that being said they've promised their first and foremost priority at the moment is optimization so we should be seeing performance boosts soon. The game already feels unique and it certainly has a lot of potential, it's definitely one to watch in this Genre IMO.

Optimization problems are to be expected for early access game, but how feature rich is it? Can you already build different builds, walls or whatever, how much crafting, farming and actual sandbox content is there?

Of course they're expected but this is pretty bad on the optimization side of things even for an Early Access. The thing is, the features, crafts etc are all tied to your characters level ( you will not be able to experience everything at low level because you'll get your shit rekt by aggressive Dinosaurs ), so it requires you to level up and make choices in what you want to learn to craft as you do so, the problem with that is that I can't possibly test all the features/crafts until I have leveled a character up more on a server. If you venture too far into the forests at low level you also find yourself getting rekt by Carnivores so again, I can't really see everything yet.

As me and the two guys I teamed up with leveled, I made sure to get the craft skills to make Slingshots, Water Skins and odd bits like Standing torches to light the area around our base and other stuff like mortar and pestle to grind stuff down to see what I could make, whilst one of the other guys had all the skills to craft the most basic walls/foundation/ceiling/door. You get enough skill points to buy the basic crafts you will need but there are choices to make as you level and I think this is a good system because it makes being in a Tribe and co-operating with other players a lot more rewarding, as you may be able to craft stuff other Tribe members cant and vice versa.

I think with the leveling system, the difficulty in being able to obtain powerful Dinosaurs and the bonuses of playing as a Tribe, it's definitely going to have a lot more fun gameplay hours when compared to many other of these MMO survival games, where you jump on a server and can quickly obtain and craft some of the best stuff possible. Even if someone jumps on a server where their friends play and gets given a bunch of good equipment, they're still going to be level 1, you'll have better stats than they do, you can raise all kinds of stats from carry weight, melee damage, health, stamina etc and they all obviously play an important role. I was on my own at one point and came across another player, he threw a spear at me and tried to run, but I had solely focused on putting my level points mainly into Stamina and a bit in Melee damage, so he run out of Stamina before me and I caught up to him and speared him to death. These stats will give players perhaps different roles in a Tribe, players with lots of stamina will be great at catching or escaping enemies for instance, or those with high health will be able to tank more damage.

People will have to dedicate time to their characters and IMO it's going to make a stronger community for the game because a low level troll just running around trying to KOS everyone and steal their shit is going to get easily rekt by higher level players. Anyone who does make it their priority to KOS every one and sticks around on that server, leveling up, is also going to be known for that and will be targeted by the more co-operative players. The leveling system means you are going to earn a reputation at some point with that character and if you're an arsehole everyone will soon know your name and what you look like, unless you want to make a new character and start from level 1 on the same server you'll reap what you sow. But this will also make for some pretty awesome Tribe v Tribe rivalry.

The Dino's all seem to have male/female next to their name and apparently it's been said that breeding is a goal, I think farming is already in to an extent.

Well from my experience, everything. You can build a one use sleeping bag to respawn on or the better option is a bed as it's permanent with a 5 minute spawn cool down, if your tribe has beds you can spawn in them and you can also fast travel between them but you can't take any items with you, you'll just drop everything if you fast travel to another bed with stuff in your pack/equipped, at least that's what the text said when I moused over it. The maps a fair size with quite a lot of detail as far as I've seen, cave systems to explore and even underwater exploration.

So, you lose levels and skill points and such as well, complete wipe of your character?

Lol no I meant loot wise, you can be dry looted. If you lost levels and/or complete character wipe I think a lot of people would rage quit pretty quickly, it seems like it will take a while to get to high levels and it's pretty easy to be killed, like I mentioned in my other post, my Russian friend shot some guy in the head with a slingshot and it knocked him out instantly, imagine the rage if you lost level progress as well as all your shit lol.

Give it a week or two, see how it changes (cheaper price on steam lasts two weeks).

Apparently not enough servers and bad optimization are the main downsides atm.
