The two armies were encamped on opposing hills, the troops busily sharpening weapons or having a quick nap before the impending battle. In the valley between two kiosks were set up, one with an HCE banner and the other flying an LL one.
"C'mon mates, we got grite gear here!," the man behind the LL kiosk was shouting, "and we got plinty of gold in prizes!"
"Plate armour," cried the man in the other kiosk, "and weapons! Not great ones, in fact they are kinda shitty! And no prizes, but the prize of being in an awesome battle!"
A couple of the men milling about the kiosks walked over to the HCE one. "Hmmm," he grunted, "you already got a lot of names here."
"Exactly," the man in the kiosk said, "It should be an amazing victory. Which is great for me, for this is my first battle. My name is Richard the Stalwart, and I'd appreciate your help." With that he stood up and offered his hand.
The mercenary ignored the proffered hand, still scowling at the roster. "Meh," he said, "a defense on a hill, with more mercs than the enemy. Sounds damn boring. It'll all be 'stick together, guys', and we'll be standing on the hill bored, while a few idiots charge out. Nah, there'll be no glory in that." With that he walked over to the LL kiosk and signed up for Dutchy. All the other men followed suit.
"Wait a second.." Richard cried out.
Next to a Richard another man was seated, snoozing in his chair. With a sudden start the man jumped awake. "Not the kittens!" he shrieked, falling off his chair. He quickly stood up, rubbing his eyes. "Um what did I miss?" he asked.
"Bryggan, men are starting to sign for LL," Richard said, "we may lose our numbers advantage."
"Ha, don't worry about it," Bryggan said, slapping him on the back, "We're defending! On a hill top! We have more ticks, we have the position! We will win this."
"Um..." Richard started, but stopped when another group of mercs approached them.
"Hey guys, "Bryggan addressed them, "don't bother with us. Better go sign up for Dutchy- he'll need your help, ha ha!" The men moved over to Dutchy.
"What are you doing," hissed Richard.
"Don't worry. This is your first battle. We want it to be glorious. Nothing more boring than a gank."
Time passed, and several more mercs trickled in. Bryggan kept sending them over to Dutchy. "Ho ho," he said, rubbing his hands together, "this will be an epic battle. The numbers are perfect right now."
Half an hour before the battle a large group of mercenaries showed up. "Ok Richard, we better snag a few of these guys to ensure our victory," Bryggan said, then turned to address the incoming group. "Gentlemen! Sign up for us and experience the most glorious defense ever! Plenty of..."
"Forget it! You guys are a bunch of assholes," the man in the front said, "we're signing for Dutchy."
A few more men came, and despite Bryggan's pleas, they all went to Dutchy.
"Sorry mate," Dutchy said to Richard, "but no worries. Aye reckon a lot of my guys won't bothah showing up. Should steel be a good fight."
Richard started coughing. "Damn Bryggan," I don't feel too good. I think i got a touch of Ayufkay. Probably won't make the battle."
"Don't worry," Bryggan smiled, "we got this. When you get better, check the archive and you'll see your first victory... oh hi, Blue."
"Hi guys," Blue said.*
