...that you cannot allow even remotely strong and useful ranged units, because if you do people will switch to playing the game like every other FPS. Same goes for both native module and cRPG.

What I find even more disturbing is that Star Citizen community, one of the biggest crowdfunding communities where devs kinda listen to what fans have to say about their work, on the mention that developer should consider implementing melee combat system from Kingdom Come Deliverance, most people were against saying how melee combat is so mainstream and overused and it will spoil joy of FPS component.

WTF is wrong with people? After playing previously mecha shooter game with half decent melee combat and after that dedicating my game time to Warband I can't even think, much less enjoy playing any online FPS. I'm forever lost to guns, rifles and other projectile based weapons.

cRPG related: have pretty beef HX build but just don't have desire to play it. Played ranged for some time but only enjoyment I ever got from it was sadistic joy when you see struggling enemy player trying to reach you while you are doing what can only be explained like trolling.

They are probably thinking of stuff along the lines of knife combat in Call of Duty or Team Fortress 2 instakill melee weapons. I enjoy that option in an FPS, it's fun to fight as and against. A lot of people hate it though.

irl something shorted on the shuttle and laika overheated and died within a few hours of liftoff and for a brief while one could look up to the stars and see a light shooting across the sky that was actually a warm dog corpse slingshoting about the earth at thousands of miles per hour which was arguably humanity's greatest achievement so far

You know those times when ranged cry on forums, demand buffs, some melee also agrees, then you go and try it youself to find out they were right, ranged is underpowered. At those times you need to look at the bigger picture, imagine cliffs filled with archers, throwers trolling infantry, bushes full of xbow shooting unnoticed. And do not change a thing.

Played ranged for some time but only enjoyment I ever got from it was sadistic joy when you see struggling enemy player trying to reach you while you are doing what can only be explained like trolling.

Don't get rid of ranged, just give melee a mage blink like in wow or a charge that gets you in melee range of the archer when you are 50 feet away and knocks them down too. :P

Press Z to charge, running straight forward only

your maximum charge range is based on agility
your charge damage is based on strength

if you have a weapon with knockdown or a raised shield, your charge has a chance to knock over enemies caught in your wake.

I find the confrontations between ranged and close combat is one of the most interresting aspects of M&B in many levels. Cavalry is interresting to but not like that by a long shot (shot .. lol  :oops:) .
Both melee and ranged classes have their beauty in fantasies and in the gameplay ...

To balance this engagement deserves a big focus of game design and requires a good skill in it. But eventually it is what gives the game alot of life. E.g. it also can and should definately be utilized more to force more tactical gameplay. You need to understand that an tactically acting close combat squad has always a very good chance against ranged teams ... but if they just mob up and brawl around like idiots they get shot to pieces one by one ... exactly how it should be.
Crying about ranged (as melee) was always and will always be my indicator for someone not getting to the point of really wanting to play the game, but simply wants to play hack and slay and be "always winning"- because people are to much used to 08/15 gameplay design that licks the balls of players already for not poking his nose for once while playing ...

Ranged vs. Melee gameplay (not sure if im including throwers to ranged, because they are basically neither) is the best thing asides the fighting mechanics in the game ...
