I don't want restricted banners. It would lead one day to situation where bunch of nobodies claim my banner. No, just NO.

I have been told it is possible to incease the number of banners.

My suggestion is to add a number of banners equal to the clans, making the native banners available for the public (or independant players). The new banners could be the ones Ad Necrias has gathered in his post.

I think it should be implemented, right now.

Banners would still be free, but if new banners were added you could restrict certain banners for clan members. It adds more uniqueness to clans and encourages more clans to be formed, and that's always something positive.

Also, since the database already uses the .dat file (profile file) for name reference etc., you could have similar referencing for the banners. I would assume something like this is doable.

The banner autobalance is a step in the right direction but obviously flawed.  What we need is a clan system on cRPG (not necessarily strategus) that folks can join, and on the page have a check box that asks if you want to be auto-balanced with your clan. (or if that's too hard, do it automatically).  That would solve all the problems imo.

Adding my suggestion from here:
Quote
Make faction tag independent from profile name
Well, I got this idea when I remember this system in BFBC2. This system allow to not change your profile name, when you want to move into another clan/faction, what is much easier. I think this may be usefull and for admins too. So my suggestion:
1) Make an option in cRPG character cabinet, where you can enter and save tag.
2) Tag will be automaticaly shown somewhere near the player name in the game.
3) Similar way prefix/postfix for Strategus
I dont know this system inside, maybe admins could find a better way leading to the same result.

My guess is there is some people that swap flags to be on some clans side but i can't imagine that its that many, the problem is you start giving away flags to certain clans it narrows the flags down for randoms basically making the random flags into clans of there own, is there really such a big change in flags people are using, or have most these people been using them since they made there char and you've just started noticing more because they do get on you're team?

I don't see the problem with restricting clan flags/banners to the clans that have claimed them first... what it basicly means is that some random guy/gal/it has to pick something else. Then again what is a random person dooing with a faction banner anyway. I for one wouldent mind factionless people to have NO banner, dunno if people agree on that but it gives others some measure of pride to wear those colours.

It gave me a good laugh when I saw the first time Joker and some other guys fly the Mercs banner. When I saw run Dima around with it, I thought a bit more serious about it.

There is nothing wrong with people trying to get in the team with Mercs, because some of them indeed have some sort of skill and therefore your chances to win might be a bit better. I also enjoy playing with some of the Mercs.

However, its not right to "exploit" the system.

Therefore, the way/ suggestion I d like the most is factions (Nord, Rhodocks, Khergit, Sarranid, Swadian) bannner for the independant/ clanless/ small clan members, own custom banner only for factions that own at least a castle (or maybe town only) in Strategus.

Hint: Mercs hire.

im curious on how you are going to enforce this?

how are you going to prevent first time players from selecting a banner they think is "cool" and ultimately being punished for it.

Are you aware of a thing called "coding"? It makes wonders.

I guess that the stupid limited banner numbers of Warband would best suit a solution not based on the banner but more like something website related: if you are in a faction list in strategus you got autobalanced with your teammates. That would solve any banners assignment problem, but I don't know if it's tecnhically possible.

Otherwise the awesome chadz helped by the smelly cmpx could do one of their code trick and raise the banner limit.
I trust you guys

This is by far the best and easiest solution in my opinion.
