I feel like I am missing out on something, because I've never had much desire to play the MGS games and I was kind of bored when I did play one years ago, yet a lot of people bang on about how awesome they are, I guess my brains broken.

I know right. I never got the hype. But after watching this games gameplay's I got massively hyped. This is the coolest shit i've seen in a long time. Honestly after watching all that, I dont understand how Splinter Cell is ever going to be relevant again.

Nothing has gotten close to Chaos Theory when it comes to stealth games.

MGS1 was great, never played any other MGS game. But 5 looks promising, but I'm going to have to pointedly ignore the retarded story.

It's harder than I thought :o

And I am having - as always with open world games lately - the problem of choosing the input controller.

For movement in general, gamepad is great. Having more than just 2 digital movement speeds is great but...

...shooting is ridiculous with it. So, m+k or gamepad?! D:

Or the Xbox wireless pc controller, also there's the nvidia shield controller but that needs to be plugged into a USB port.

What's the deal with the lack of mouse support in menus. That makes absolutely no sense.
Also navigating tabs you need to press 1 and 3. This is not remappable? I use arrow keys so that's miles away.

Edit: Just thought to myself that I probably should delete my save and restart. Now that I actually know the mechanics and how it's played "properly", I feel that I should strife for better grades :D

Best mission yet: Side-Op to free a lost sheep. It took me quite a while to realize that "sheep" was ment literally...

I had no relation to the series before this and yet I do enjoy the game.
It's very well made, top optimized, fun, challenging (at least for me as newby) and entertaining.
R&D is fun, Mother Base management adds a fun layer on top.
Haven't been that far yet but having "buddies" around who you can order around during mission seems cool.

I'd say 9/10 is warranted. Probably more for the fans of the series.

I'm not that far but I'm not liking it so much. It runs wonderfully, I haven't seen it skip a beat on maximum, 1440p 60FPS. Not even a blip.

I don't like the controls much and it's very, very cutsceney and stylised, even getting on a horse has some weird minicutscene that's overkill. Mechanics-wise I haven't seen anything too special, pretty standard TPS but a lot more stealth orientated.

And the lack of mouse control on the menus really, really annoys me.

LoL yeah I agree that horse thing should've been a 1 time thing not every time you mount up. Also Miller is pretty annoying over the radio or is it Ocelot? And the credit rolls after every mission lol. Theres a lot of annoying stuff mixed in but overall I am really enjoying the game. Wish they would have given zip ties to use on tranq/stunned mobs as sometimes they wake up on their own and if there are a lot of guards capturing the post is a pain.

Playing with a gamepad. It's way easier to move around the rubble with it since it simply allows for a finer movement.
And don't find the no mouse in menu thing that bad. WSAD and space replace it well enough. Still, a very odd thing to do.

I do like the mini-cutscenes tbh. Gives it some epicness just to mount D-Horse :D And it's short enough to amuse me every time

And one thing I really enjoy by now: planting all the C4 even on not required tech. The world is completely persistent. So blown up stuff stays broken the next time you come around that certain outpost or village.
Since you detonate over RF in the order you planted the C4, just get comfy on some overseeing hill and watch chaos unfold when you detonate  8-)
