When I tried to run for Africa with Sicily, France overtook me so fast I didn't even manage to secure half the continent.

What's better, EU4 or Vict 2? I love EU4 myself, and tried a Vict2 tutorial and couldn't understand it.

hmm.

Vic 2 seems far less about war and far more diplo, though eu4 has some diplo.
My favorite games go like this: EU4>Ck2>HoI3>Vict2(couldn't play very much due to tutorial/demo but didn't really like it)

I might have to give it a try, it being 5 bucks and all right now...

That's not true at all. Victoria has more indepth war mechanics than EU, almost akin to HoI. It has somewhat more rigid nation borders, requiring multiple wars to expand even slightly. Has always felt a lot more "serious" than EU games to me.

Victoria is set in times with much more stable political power and borders. This is reflected in the mechanics and also due to the shorter timeframe you cannot deviate too much from historical accuracy.

At the same time this makes the game less fun for me because diplomacy very quickly locks up and you spend most of your game twiddling your thumbs, just like a real 19th century country. Build up nationalism like a pressure cooker, then it explodes in a fabulous world war. Many variables are out of your control and at the end of the game the winners tend to be the same old usual suspects, over and over again.

Except when you colonize half of Africa and then raise huge colonial armies from the locals and bring them back to Europe to curbstomp those hated neighbours of yours.

Yeah except if you start small you will never have a lot of focus points. France has like 7 and will always colonize Africa faster than you, or at least get a good chunk of it.
