i considered archaeology at uni but decided that path wasn't for me
I had a great history teacher, he was a DR which was odd for our school but our A-level consisted of the usual build up to world wars and it had a lot of focus on the Cold war but we also covered the Middle east in depth and the Irish troubles and the rise of the independence movement Fenian bastards!
The Irish and middle east parts were really interesting and my course work was on Charlemagne (go modern world history rite). Luckily you just need to pick up a few books and watch some documentaries to learn more about History.
Books i can recommend at least are Empire by Nial Ferguson (about the rise and decline of the British Empire ofc) and A great and terrible king by marc morris (about Edward the first ((longshanks from braveheart)
Speaking of books i think schools should add some of the great historical fiction books to required reading, Hell just give them some Cornwell to read in English class and they will probably want to learn history
Tell them Game of Thrones is "loosely" based on the War of the Roses and im sure some will try to learn about that too
Some pretty nice books. Trying to work my way through Herodotus and 8 volumes of Decline and Fall of the roman empire by gibbon (boy that's some archaic language and not easy going)
Doesnt really suit the stereotype of Electrician by you know to each their own ^^
