A long time ago I did a gen as 1H/shield/archery with samurai-themed gear. Light strange set (right in the sweet spot for archer armor IMO), yumi bow, wakizashi or knife, and 2 slots left for shield. I think my build was 18/18.

6 WM gives a little more WPF now, so those should be higher than what I had. With long bow and rus bow 140 wpf might be too low, but the yumi draws fast enough to make it work. A horn bow or Bow (forces 1 slot or less shields) would work as well. It's nice to have the option of pulling a shield out when you see an incoming melee gank or you are solo versus multiple enemy ranged.
It's not the best build, but it was a lot of fun. Pure archers are better at archery, pure infantry are better at melee. You can do both pretty well.
And now that the highest shield req is 5, you could use or pick up any shield you want (or find during the round).
