Interesting. Then why was he standing over Holiday after the battle was initiated last night? Regardless of whether he was trading with you before, he came to reinforce Sivart, and we caught him.

Regardless of what he did, he's been actively trading with us for the last two days and you guys attacked him in our territory.

True, but considering you have not updated http://forum.melee.org/diplomacy/rise-of-the-apa/ or even this http://forum.melee.org/diplomacy/blm-sends-na-army-to-investigate-oil-under-nova-burglen-and-nova-chide/  with anything about your borders/trade policies, how are we supposed to know we cant attack in your area.

Sure we could have gone in your TS and asked, but that removes the element of surprise on the attack and gives you time to let the people know we are coming for them.
Here, dear crpg folk, we have an honest man who doesn't conceal the truth out of the fear of getting nerfed. He surely deserves a round of heartfelt applause.

Our fiefs are all open trade, but it should be common sense to not attack people within other's lands.

You guys could have at the very least attempted to contact us, but I guess that's too much to ask.

Losing the element of surprise?  I'm sure he saw you charging right at him, in foreign territory, that's a bullshit excuse.

edit:

Wesley, contact me later and we can sort it all out.

hes def in between both places thus being fair game, if you want free trade you'd be better off in an area thats agreed upon it all together. making free trade next to a highly active faction that requires notification is just asking to have no business. it's like you're that awkwardly placed surf shop in detroit. aint no waves here homie :/

Is it more awkward than a scuba shop in Minnesota (I suppose you technically could use it in a lake...but who is doing that).

Also according to my calculations, Tahlberl has too much territory on the diplo-map...who drew up the borders?

One of the perks of owning land is that you get to decide what goes on there. Some people have open borders and free trading, they may get more merc support and benefit from passive income in the form of taxes. Some people have closed borders and restricted trading, they benefit from higher S&D and confiscated goods. It's a trade-off.

I agree that closed borders are annoying but hey it's part of the game. If everything was carebears and hugs it would be boring.

oh sweet child, you really have no idea. when you throw money at undefended shit and win with a 1-1/1-2 ratio, thats a bad thing. I'm sure you'll get a free lesson in the true art of 'shreking' soon bb boi ;)

I'd like to request you refrain from using the term "bb boi", "bb boy", "baby boy", and related phrases. That right is only granted to Arowaine.

Don't confuse closed borders with closed trade.

I agree that closed borders are annoying but hey it's part of the game. If everything was carebears and hugs it would be boring.

I don't see how closed borders makes the game less boring. It's just annoying.

If you want to jump on juicy looking crate haulers, wouldn't an open border policy be more beneficial anyway?
And I do understand closed borders in a time of war, natch.

(click to show/hide)

Having been awoken by his Squire James was informed of Squid Propaganda that had recently been posted across the realm. "We can only hope the good people of Calradia see through this ruse, Bandits claiming a righteous cause, a sad time in the realm indeed". Bored with the ficticious content of the propaganda James used it to bolster the fire in his hearth and with a short prayer would retire to bed.

"Our chadz who art in programming
Hallowed be thy code
Thy patches come, thy will be done
On Calradia as it is in Austria
Give us this day our daily ticks
and forgive us our Team kills
as we forgive them that team kill us.
And lead us not into trolling
but deliver us from PITAs
For thine is the Strat Map,
The E-Peen and the Glory,
For ever and ever,
Amen"

now if you could get chadz to call a crusade then that might help your cause lol

So one guys gets bored and attacks a caravan.  Another guy uses the state of war to capture a village.  Another faction takes advantage of the war to get in on the profiteering and starts attacking caravans and villages.  Another faction gets angry about their trade partners getting attacked in their lands.

Soon another faction will see all the war going on and will hop in the fray.  Then one faction will torpedo the Lusitania, drawing another faction in.  Then we will have total war.

Not a big mega-alliance, just a massive war with sides drawn.  Then finally the war will end, and the previously allied factions will enter a cold war with each other, which will quickly turn into a hot war.

Not a bad state of affairs, me thinks.
