I don't think anyone has been angry about the double XP event between strat 4 and strat 5. There are tons of players asking for it to be made permanent. Seems like a good idea at first glance, but think of it this way:
Casual player logs on and plays for 2 hours. They get 4 hours worth of XP.
Hardcore online 24/7 player logs on and plays for 8 hours. They get 16 hours worth of XP.
At regular rates, the casual player gets 6 hours less of XP. At x2, the casual player gets 12 hours less of XP. If the x2 event was made permanent, the power parity between casual players and hardcore grinders will just keep getting bigger and bigger. That's no good, especially since hardcore players already have the benefit of looms/high levels over a casual or new player from all their past hours spent playing.
What if your first hour of play each day was double XP and regular after that? It would reset to a full 1 hour each 24 hours. No saving your hours of x2 until the weekend. In my opinion, that might encourage more people to play. No-lifers still get their advantage over people who don't play every single day.
