... we don't do changes because we want the game to be more realistic. We do changes because we feel they are right. If they fit with realism, that's great, and it's also our guideline, but almost never the reason for a change. We are not trying do create a simulator, we are trying to create a game.

Using a crossbow becomes somewhat problematic, when the banners are off :) Though i do change to 1st-person view from time to time.
If cRPG had more players, an additional, "realism" server could be fun - forced 1st person view, no banners, no hud, etc. Would definitely make people stick together as a team :)

I like the idea but after trying it for 10 minutes worked out why coloured tunics etc were worn when fights between similarly equipped armies happened. Its ok if you are with alot of clanmates/old players you can recognise but otherwise it doesnt work very well.

Strat battles with everyone wearing heraldic armours/barding would be good.

1 thing is needed then. Armor replacement. We already got heraldic mails for each armor range so that wouldn't be a problem.
Replace all armors with heraldic mail.
Gothic Plate replace with Trans Heraldic Mail for example. Gothic Plate may be a bit heavier but in the end you don't notice that much a difference but without name plates you know that guy isn't in your team (IF you know all banners used in your team haha). :)

What you guys don't have considered is the question: Is it really important to know whether the dude you just killed was an enemy or not? Consider the situation in which everyone was forced to play like this, what would happen? People would still want to win, which means they would stick together and maybe even move in some kind of formations, to make sure enemies couldn't easily mingle among them and backstab everyone. The gameplay would change drastically.

There is no problem for archers. If you don't know whether someone is an enemy or not, you have two options:
- You shoot him and risk killing a friend, basically doing the enemy's work and lowering your chances to win
- You do nothing

It seems to be more prudent to simply not shoot if you are unsure. Then when you see that this particular dude attacks someone you remember or can easily identify as friend because of his movement pattern, or if he isn't attacked by someone you know is an enemy, you can start shooting.

You lack imagination.
listen, i completed Mount and blade original single player once and warband single player twice in 1st person, didn't even know you could go 3rd person until i started playing this mod 3 years ago.
my mate already had the options set when he played it before me and i never thought it was 1st/3rd person game, so i played it for 4+ years in 1st person and i still play in 1st always have done always will do.

i know the immersion!  :)

Wow...  you really should try 3rd person though, it's 100x easier to see who's attacking your flanks and you can judge distances better.  I played on 1st person for a while when I was starting out but once I mastered 3rd person, there was no going back.  1st person is what I play when I'm drunk or something, mostly for the shits and giggles because it's harder.  Unfortunately, immersion doesn't help much when you're dead

well, i believe me playing in 1st person is just the same as you playing in 3rd, ive mastered panning around even inbetween attacking and blocking im always panning around, i do it automatically, so i see everything, i miss nothing. if i was ever going to use 3rd, i would be using it to look around corners, or to check my characters outfit, which i do frequently.
