I still don't get the appeal of watching some random dude playing a game instead of having a good time playing it myself.
Guess playing by themselves is too much of a hassle

When west germany annexed east germany, nobody moved a finger too.

Can't say I've ever watched a stream but I assumed it was people who either don't have the time or the hardware to play the game or wanted to get an insight into genuine gameplay before purchase

I hate to watch streams because sometimes it seems i am the only retarded person in the chat while brain damaged idiots are paying 560$ to a virgin nerd to buy an XboxOne , then he puts another goal to buy a gaming desk/chair....wtf is wrong with this people?
I actually watch streams to see new game's features like Evolve , H1Z1 and some random shit i encounter.
Too bad that quality streams are now ruined by some buch of bitches.

imo they mostly doing the air drop thing to appeal to the streamers who basically asked for it specially if I remember.

and they can't say no to those streamers because they have tons of fans. saying no would be same as saying no to lots of money from investors.

So instead of game being dictated by investors, instead its the retarded streaming culture of twitch, bro. Ultimately its not a huge deal, but its the start of a bad trend.
Got any more shitty rationalizations you want to share?

some of the streamers are pretty entertaining and they add a lot to the games they are playing.

For example Bikeman on twitch is a comedy genius and I'll usually watch his stream just to hear his commentary even if I don't like the game he is playing.

It is also a great way to see if you like a game before buying it..

watching the h1z1 stuff now...

...the air drop thing is a bit ridiculous.

They need to sort this Airdrop nonsense out ASAP, or the damage will be irreversible.

People will pick up on it, including youtubers, media, etc. Hell they already do.

There is no easy way back.

Even if they reverse this crap, the damage is already done (at least for me). This reminds me of ArcheAge devs/publishers when the game came out and how they tried to put in different pay2win shit in cash shop but then removed it when the flood of tears came from the community - basically feeling how far they can go with pay2win. Absolutely horrible and greedy way to run a game, not to mention the lying.

For fucks sake, Smedley even said on reddit a couple of hours ago in defense:
"ye we said we won't put in guns for cash like 8 months ago, that's so long ago and doesn't count lol guys u stupit???? don't like don't play lol" - http://www.reddit.com/r/h1z1/comments/2slbmc/airdrops/

Not that that by itself is already the most ridiculous thing you can say, then people find that he actually said it 2 days ago:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K6cv--warY#t=2439

I wasn't expecting this from SoE. So far they had somewhat fair business models that didn't feel like pay2win (Planetside 2, albeit lately it seems they've been trending a bit more towards p2w there as well). This just feels like the ArcheAge fiasco again, and that left a horrible taste in my mouth.

They are going to tweak it.

You payed to enter into alpha were stuff is subject to get tweaked.

This is from someone that seen the airdrop:

"Watching streams on twitch atm,
airdrop supplies dropping far from you when you call it,
you have to run to it, literally everyone sees it from miles away
and yeah they are all heading there to loot it. It explodes on impact
and spawning like 10 zombies (zombies don't attack atm its bugged).

When you arrive the Hunger games begin, looting the military create
takes like 10 seconds, plenty of time to strangers to beat you up,
bow/shoot you down.

I find this system a little strange but I would not call it pay2win,
more like pay to give stuff to others, its like a clusterfuck around
the crate.

Also you can't call air supply on an empty server only if the
server pop is 1/4 at least. That means min. 50 ppl on a 200
cap. server."

They will also tweak the distance so it drops even further than you and slow down the airplane so it takes longer to reach you giving people time to gank and steal the loot.

In before guns are removed from the world and buying these air drops is the only way to inject guns into the game. Yeah totally not pay2win or greedy as fuck from SoE tho. It's a stupid excuse to rip people off for a "wow look at this cool server hunger-games like event guys!".

If you think this is innocent you are a fool and a knave.

Time to put SOE on the boycott list then.

Also $medbux defense on Reddit was pathetic. 0/10

I never said that it's innocent, I just said it's not 100% safe for the buyer.

Plus they are lowering the chance of getting weapons from the airdrop.

It's a free game did you really expected them to have it fair?
Really?

Airdrops by j_smedleyin h1z1

j_smedley  10 hours ago

that's our intent actually. to make them super risky. Then one night when you are bored you try it and all of a sudden a bunch of stuff happens. Don't read that as we're trying to not make money. just understand the intent here is stirring the pot on the server, not selling people guns. I can see how with the current drop rate and the other changes we need to make that this is an issue.

j_smedley 10 hours ago

that's a fair way to look at it. However, if you view this as you are buying a server event (with the changes we need to make) then it's a different animal entirely. We want to let users basically make some excitement on the server is all.
