Katana is largely misunderstood. Samurai were horsemen, and Katana was the tool to put an injured horse out of its misery by cutting the head off in one clean swipe. It could also be used for bluffs, when a Samurai had lost his bow, he would pretend the curved Katana was his bow, and make swishing sounds to imitate flying arrows. This was very important, because a bowless Samurai was considered dishonourable, and would have been killed by his own allies. Lastly, many Katanas arranged in a circle on the floor could delimit the dancefloor for the after-battle party. They had a fun drinking game where every Samurai who mistakenly left the circle during the dance had to down 3 cups of sake, and the first Samurai to puke had to pay for the whole party.

I know all this from my daughter, who was a Samurai for a long time, before she was abducted by aliens.

This video/ "demo piece" of shit is so full of inconstancy's that you have some exceptionally lumpy custard right there.

Eg, the leather armour, the guy completely different directions of attack, with the long sword he is bringing it up from below the waist to just above it, whilst the katana is being brought down on the body.

That video is both laughable and shows how full of shit american tv is...

Katana very pretty. Very good for BC technology. In Europe they would have been SUPER happy to have it. Too bad japanese didnt invent it untill two thousand years later. Sucks. Timing is everything I guess.

The Katana is (was) not a weapon to be used on the battlefield.They used spears.

The Katana was mainly a weapon that was used by Samurai (as we all know). The Samurai was less than 3 % of the total population of Japan.

The Katana can be used with one hand if you are  truly a good swordsman.

The armor of the Europeans is different than the Japanese.Thus the fighting style is different.

If i was a chillin with a barbarian and the Barbarian starts to insult me for my Katana i would perform ''Ippon-me - Mae'' to silence him.

Prior to the 15th and 16th centuries, do you know what the favoured weapon of the samurai was? It certainly wasn’t the katana, the broad sword, or any other type of sword. In fact, there’s no mention whatsoever of the sword as the “soul of the samurai” prior to a statement made by Tokugawa Ieyasu at the beginning of the 17th century. Prior to this time, the samurai were in fact mounted archers who were highly skilled with the bow and arrow, occasionally using other weapons if necessary. For the greater part of their history, the sword was not an important weapon to the samurai.
