I lived there for two years, too. I agree that the people are kind of arrogant and shallow. But terrible food? Zurich has a lot of great Restaurants, with food from many different cultures of the world. Also, the weather is not much more terrible than in the rest of the country. Nightlife is pretty typical for western Switzerland, it's concentrated on a few popular clubs, and the rest of the city is almost dead. The lake is pretty nice during summer, and there are a few forested hills nearby that are great for jogging.

Overall, I agree with you, though, Switzerland in general is not very attractive for foreigners. It's very, very small, in everything. It has beautiful places, but for young people, it isn't very interesting. You should have gone a bit further to the north, to Munich or Berlin.

I found the food terrible due to my reference cuisine (Turkish). (Please don't mention the bullsh.t kebab stores which cooks terrible "kebab", I'm truly sorry for European people that are put to eat that nonsense, anyways ...) Sure there are many restaurants around, but it takes you to have a huge pocket to afford tasty large portions (still referencing my cuisine). I still haven't come up with a reasonable explanation why would someone fill the half of a plate with 20 boiled potatoes? Or eat spinach with fish?

I have come to the conclusion that this damn town is good for people who are 70+, and seeking for a nice place to die. Definitely not for young people, or foreigners in general ...

Well there are a few sawmills around, only one big still active, the one you describe sounds like 25-30 minute drive from where I live, so odds are you ate at my pub

Tourists who drive through Norway tend to drive past where I live, when coming down / going up the mountain passes leading west to Stavanger or further north, it is the most scenic route afterall. Lots of german tourists in their caravans during summer
The world is a village sometimes...

I probably won't ever again visit Norway w/o my Motorbike tho... Arriving at Kristiansand, driving like 50m straight and then it already starts going upwards! :D
I don't get people slowing themselves artificially down by using a fucking caravan.

I love the Lyseboten-route coming from the... I think it's the Eastern approach... or the way towards the Southkap at Lindesnes or Lindsnes (something like that). Norway is the place where I had my best times on a bike ever. If it just wasn't so god damn expensive over there. :D
When west germany annexed east germany, nobody moved a finger too.

I used to work as a navigator on ships and my favourite place to go in Europe was Drammen - purely because you have to go past Svelvik. I used to look into peoples houses and want to live there.

Narrow ass Svelvik pass: http://goo.gl/maps/Jqf00

There are some restaurants with turkish cuisine in Zurich, I remember the "Meze" and the "Manesse", but I have no idea if they serve "original" dishes. And yes, most western europe kebab is pretty terrible. There is a huge supplier that supplies almost all kebab vendors in Switzerland, which is why most of the Kebab you can get is exactly the same.

And about the price...why the fuck did you go to one of the most expensive cities in the world if you can't afford it? Seriously...

The city wich i identify with eventhough i dont officialy live in it (still we are directly border to it) is hannover, the capital of lower-saxony:

The new town-hall, the football-stadion and the Maschsee (the lake). The Maschsee is made by human hand under the chocolate chip cookie´s regime to give a high number of workless people something to do. It got a area of ~0.78 km² and got a average deep of 2 meter.

If there if a new townhall there need to be an old!

The centralstation:

Also there is the saying: "Wir treffen uns unter dem Schweif." Wich means in english: "We will meet under the tail." If somebody is saying that to you he meant to meet under the rider statue infront of the centralstation

We also got a beatiful aristocratic garden called "Herrenhäuser Gärten":

In this garden there is every year a internationally fireworkcompetition:

In my opionion its quite fascinating how fast the city was rebuild after 1945. Due the air raid (Hannover was a transport nodal point and had some strategic factories) the city was destroyed by ~90% and only 50% of the flats were useable.

is there an english version of krabat?  you should read krabat.
Yes, I know from whence I came! Discontented as a flame, Upon myself I live and glow. All I grasp like lightning flashes, All I leave behind is ashes
Flame I am - that much I know!
