What would really make the score system "fair" is to add both assists and fuckups:
You can only get one assist per enemy (or enemy mounted horse) no matter have many times you inflict damage. The same goes for fuckups which is the other way around (hurting teammates or friendly horses).
However I don't think that such a system would be very good performance wise (too much pressure on the servers). I don't even know if it could be eimplemented but it surely would be nice.

+1 for this. We beggzor chadz! This would also end the "He teamwounded! I did not!".

i only killed a teamridden horse once. and the pecores on top of it did not look happy after i unhorsed him. :O
but it was an accident, i was in panic and... well.. okay, it was fun. :D

Sometimes those banners really blend into the sky/forest/buildings.  I've thrown the odd jarid into a friendly horse (which is the one benefit of thrown being nerfed).  I advise getting yourself a neon pink banner to ensure it never happens again.  I think it would be great if there was a way to show the damage you've shelled out per game, whether to shields, horses or 3/4" thick tin can armour.
Mind you I should also get points for distracting guys while cav charges behind them, or drawing the two handed guy out into the open so the archers can plug him.  I realized I'm a pretty crappy one on oner, but found lots of ways to help teammates get the kills.

An infantry can carry 3 shields and they are usually dirt cheap compared to horses, so no.  Shields do not equate a horse. Not unless we're talking a full-on Assist system where you break a guy's shield right before he dies, then that's an Assist, sure.

For the sake of practicality, however, I think simply tracking enemy-ridden horse kills would be much more feasible than a full assist system.
