Why would people want the Spathovaklion model out of the game? It's quite a good model, looks nice :?

I agree that it's a good model, I bought one before they added knockdown to it because I thought it looked good. (great patch when that happened :) quite soon after I bought it and my only issue was it didn't have the knockdown the other 1h blunt weapons did)

This Gothic Mace model is very similar (a couple more ridges on the end and a black handle, rather than the red & gold handle).

If you replaced the Flanged Mace with this model, we would end up with two very similar 1h blunt weapons. The flanged Mace maybe ugly but at least it provides some diversity. I would rather have a vast choice in different weapon designs than to add similar looking weapons.

Also if you replaced the Flanged Mace with this model it would have 2 less damage and 5 less length than the Spathovaklion. So, what's its niche? Why would people use it?

Spathovaklion has fewer different ranges than the new new mase mase therefore should have more damage

Then why is OP doing this poll?

What's the point of replacing the Flanged Mace model if your then going to change the stats?

Why not keep the Flanged Mace and add this as a new weapon?

My preference is to add a new weapon, but I'm offering other options in the poll.

In my mind, there really is no reason to not add new items if we have the models.  Even if the weapons look similar (these really don't) or if there is no "niche" -- it doesn't matter.

Nordic war sword, champions sword, nordic short war sword all look virtually identical.  There is not a separate niche for the Broad 1h Battle Axe and the One Handed Battle axe (difference of 1 damage vs 3 length is meaningless).  HBS and Longsword have the same niche, and look more similar to each other than this Gothic Mace and the Spathovaklion/Flanged Mace do.

Think about it!

Then why include the Flanged Mace at all?

If you wanted to add more options than just "add this weapon" then you should have included a ranged of options not just the FM.

(Especially if you're then going to expect the FM's stats to be changed)

Well, to be honest I included the flanged mace because when I suggested we add a gothic mace like a year ago, everyone said "looks too much like flanged mace."  So in order to head off that ill-fitting argument I included the option to replace the flanged mace.  Now people are saying its too much like Spathovaklion/Sauron's mace so I really don't understand people I guess.  :)

Maybe check for a gap in the stats that the Gothic Mace could fill and become a new weapon in its own right.

I don't think the Devs will just add another mace but hopefully you can find something they can't say no to.

Good luck getting it added!!!

I'm still hoping that they will add the 1h morningstar someone posted a long time ago.

I support adding this handsome Gothic mace whether replacing the ugly flanged mace (more likely) or being added in its own right. Afina did a good job, ought to be recognized for it.

Keep the Flanged Mace, but add this.

Short Sword looks like Nordic Short Sword which looks like Nordic Short War Sword, yet we have all three.
Spiked Mace looks like Iberian Mace, yet we have both.
Short Arming Sword looks like Broad Short Sword, yet we have both.
Fighting Pick looks like Military Hammer, yet we have both.

Who cares, add everything.

It's a bit high on polys, ~1.2k.

Flanged is ~400

Awesome work!

If it's too many polys, maybe it can be toned down a bit.  I don't know how this works, so i'm not sure if that is easy or not.

Looks amazing though!

It is really easy to increase the poly count in blender, not so sure about decreasing (if anyone knows an easy way to do it, let me know). There are definitely spots where it could easily be toned down, like the golden twists that probably won't even be visible in game, sadly. Best to just leave them as flat rings. Also, I don't know how the game interprets these files... if you look at any weapon/armor they have rather sharp angles everywhere, nothing round is round, etc. and yet in-game they appear much more round and far smoother than in blender or any other software. Maybe the game interprets anything with 8+ sides as a circle? No actual idea, just throwing numbers out there. In blender you can view the 'blocky' files as 'smooth' by just clicking a button to change your viewing preference. It doesn't alter the file at all, if you save it/export it it will still be as blocky as before, but maybe the game engine does something similar to all models. If only zagibu were here to A) shed some light on this and B) actually add this to the game.  :(

Tried smoothing groups?

It's flat and smooth in the toolbar on object mode iirc.

You can force hardedges by highlighting the edges and ctrl + e -> edge sharp.
Then you get the modifier edge split or something like that and all should be looking nice and smooth. (Don't apply the modifier, it'll split the object along sharp edges)

Pretty sure there is a modifier to remove vertices, I believe you specify a the distance for it merge vertices.
It can work quite well, or there is always merging vertices by hand :p.
