Sure if you want to buy more petrol for the extra space you don't really need... It depends on what you want.

Wait, you mean random people are doing drafting relays on the autobahn ?
It's awesome when speeding through a part with a speed limit and other occasions

Let's say you're on a strip with 130km/h but you want to go faster w/o risking running into a radar. You wait till someone speeds past and you get behind him. Stick close enough to him and any radar pic taken is obsolete IF there are 2 cars in the same picture.
The other occasion would be that if you wanna go and there are slow people on the left side, get behind some other fast car and let him do the close up driving, the left turn signal or even the light signal... all those are actually forbidden

So, it's less about helping each other but about taking advantage :P

A friend and me used to call those "helpful" cars our "pacecar" :D
When west germany annexed east germany, nobody moved a finger too.

I think cmp says that space is more important than a tiny bit more fuel efficiency to many people.

I was thinking about autobahns without speed limits, if those still exist today. Driving close enough to the next car so that you can profit from drafting is incredibly dangerous, much more so than just speed. Speed tends to affect the amount of damage in a car accident, but not its likeliness.

Also I frequently see slow left laners that intentionally slow down without changing lanes when you get too close (previously mentioned suicidal drivers I've been with do that a lot).

Yeh and he is probably right. Surely just the best solution for some people. I guess I don't think like an average car owner since I can never see myself owning a station wagon. Just doesn't rustle my jimmies to drive one .

So what about SUV's? I think those are absolutely useless vehicles. What's the point? You can't do off road with them and they are horrible road cars...

It's an extremely unoriginal way to show power just like a big house, that makes you look like a dick to everybody else even more than said house. Unless the house is pink or something.

absolutely this.  seriously,  an "offroad" station wagon like the passat all track is suitable on road, off road and has a big trunk,  just like i like em :D

Chevy Trailblazer SS
(click to show/hide)

I live in Huntsville Alabama, Every saturday night, all the racers meet up at a certain parking lot, we chill, hangout, check out other cars, by around midnight we all head off to the gas station about 3 miles down the road (going away from the city), where, we fill up, and check out everyones fast rides. From there, the race leader ( owns a trailblazer SS w/ full tuneups, nitrous, twin charged V8, etc..) decides where we race at, we have a few locations such as the "chicken shack", "speedway", and other backups to go to after the cops bust them. it is hell of fun.

--most SUVs i agree are shit, and the only real use i could think of is keeping your family safe.. have you seen an SUV collide with a honda civic?

(back to pic-related SS blazer..)
The SS Trailblazer has got to be the only SUV i would purchase. i love the look of it, and it can get up and go!
Stock:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.4-5.5 sec (faster than a lot of cars, but still slow if you are really into speed. Of course, this is stock)

Now those sound much better. Passat all track, Subaru Outback (actually rather cool car. Could want), Volvo XC70 and Audi all road come to mind. EDIT: Skoda Yeti is awesome too!

I bet Subaru Outback is better off road car than any SUV out there. If it's "safety" you want and crash into Honda Civics every now and then, why not buy real off road car like Land Rover, Jeep, Land Cruiser or Range Rover? Even Toyota Hilux 4wd if you don't have kids. There's actually some real benefit for your gas money since you can go off road with them :D.

"Have you seen SUV collide with Civic" argument is just weapons race of the roads. Everyone buys bigger and bigger cars to be "safe". Many times it seems to allow them to drive like invincible douchebags as a result, which is just even more dangerous than driving a Honda Civic. SUV owners often forget that there is always a bigger one, trucks in this case.
