I can very well understand that but it still doesn't protect you from events outside of your control. Like a loose tile on a roof.

Loose tiles are part of the tolerances. Deciding which materials are within your realm to challenge is part of knowing your boundaries.

Yeah, well, he didn't just decide "Oh let's run over some roofs" one day, then went out and did it. There are years of training behind that.

Eh, I knew a lot of kids who did this kind of stuff, almost naturally. My brother and his friend climbed from one floor to another ten stories up to get into some girl's room because her parents wouldn't let her hang out with boys. When parkour videos got popular, they started doing that, too. They weren't gymnasts, or even especially athletic, but I never saw them slip, and neither of them wound up in the hospital for it. Call it luck, but I believe there's definitely people with innate talent for that kind of thing.

I think one sprained an ankle from a two story jump, but still, I thought it was impressive that nothing broke.

I dont know for you, but first I though it was mirror's edge 2, then RL footage, then mirror's edge 2 again, then I read your comments and understood it is RL footage. I still have doubts though.

4:12 and 6:41 are definitely worse. Those might make you paraplegic if you are unlucky. Also, the one who jumped into the trashcan...it looks as if he hit his neck straight on the edge of the can. He could be dead.

I don't think a loose tile on a roof would be a serious problem for a trained parkour athlete.

You don't think it's possible one of those bricks' mortar is old, or crusty and it chips away as he lands on a section of masonry?  I sure as hell wouldn't be putting my life in the hands of a mason who may or may not have done a proper job.  That's what I kept thinking as he was jumping onto a ledge...sure he might be able to recover from loose sections of something that he falls on, but you can't control every variable.  One loose rock or piece of masonry and you could easily fall to your death.

That can go for anything in life though, and I'm not advocating we all walk around in bubbles and only eat, sleep and go to bed to avoid any risks.  You need to enjoy your life (I have and still do some pretty risky things to my health, but I believe the reward outweighs the risk), but at the same time, I don't see the point in jumping from one building to the next, it seems so reckless.

No, i meant that even if a trained parkour athlete would step on a broken tile, he'd not fall in most cases, because his reflexes are good enough to balance the slip out.

however, one wrong step would cut your journey rather short.

I care less about the safety of a guy jumping around on buildings than the guys below that the stuff (and his body) might fall onto.
