So, this "Steel Series Sensei Raw" has basically crapped out after 6 months, although I've still been using it for a month. It was really good up until then but now it only tracks properly on laminated paper for some reason, and once that gets a bit scratched the pointer starts lagging intermittently. I even had bought the recommended gaming mouse that was apparently made for it but it doesn't track at all on it.

I would RMA it but I looked on the packaging and I don't think it came with any sort of warranty, there's no number to call for the company and I can't be assed giving out my information to another company simply to write an e-mail, I've also heard the customer service is pretty bad anyway.

Any recommendations for good, mostly plain, gaming mice? I was thinking maybe one of the Zowie ones but I'm not too keen on shelling out $50+ on a mouse after this one. I'm looking one for a similar shape and size and a couple side buttons, any help would be appreciated.
And how!

Steelseries Sensei [RAW] just picked it up yesterday, very satisfied so far. Had the Blackadder before that also a great gaming mouse but imo the fucked it up with the Synapse 2.0 (software) so my pick was Steelseries and I didn't regret it. You can also go with some cheaper models like Kinzu or Kana also great gaming mice.

I've got the regular Sensei and it's my favorite mouse to date. Hoping it doesn't crap out on me like it did you. o.O

I don't think there's any great chance anything will be wrong with yours. I've only found one or two forum posts with my particular issue and only suggestions like, "did you make sure there's no dust on the laser?"

I just don't understand why it will only track properly on laminated paper. I originally used a cloth mat, then one day it stopped working and it would track alright on my wood desk, then it would lag if I moved it too fast so I upped the DPI to compensate.

What is the perfect mousepad for the SteelSeries Sensei?
Specifically for SteelSeries Sensei we recommend the SteelSeries 9HD or SteelSeries 4HD, seeing as these gaming surfaces were researched and developed in parallel with the sensor used in the SteelSeries Sensei and thereby designed to fully support the enhanced tracking capabilities of next-gener ...

I was miffed about buying the $20 4HD for it only to not work at all...

The Steel Series Engine also seemed pretty resource intensive for it was.
And how!

Good suggestion, will try.

I really wonder whether there are gaming mouses out there with metallic hulls.

Yes, mine.

That silver section is metal, plus its length is adjustable.

Does it transform into an Autobot also?

Edit: Also, when I said "mostly plain", I meant, like, I was kind of disappointed this one glowed unless I installed the software which used ~400 MB of memory.

Way back when I lived with my parents and had disposable income dripping from every orifice, I had a Razer mouse. Can't remember the model. I actually hated it for games, but it turned out to be pretty comfortable for working in photoshop or other art stuff. It died after a few years of use. I still have the Razer eXactMat I bought with it. Nice and heavy so it never slides, really comfortable wrist rest, and it's been worn smooth as all heck from years of gaming. Metal underneath the surface so it's always nice and cold.

My current mouse is a bottom-of-the-line Dell model that came standard issue with office towers in like 2005. The paint on the left and right click has been worn down to bare plastic, and the scroll wheel no longer clicks - it just glides smoothly. I prefer this over all the fancy gaming mouses I've ever tried. Got a few backups too - I used to work at a computer recycling company and there were always piles of mice/keyboards that you could just take home if you needed a few.

irl something shorted on the shuttle and laika overheated and died within a few hours of liftoff and for a brief while one could look up to the stars and see a light shooting across the sky that was actually a warm dog corpse slingshoting about the earth at thousands of miles per hour which was arguably humanity's greatest achievement so far

I sold mine, after numerus problems with the driver and getting side buttins to work plus I realised it's too small for my hand and my hand hurts like hell after a couple of hours I'm back to Deathadder, Synapse is working fine nao

I have some plain black HP mouse with two buttons and a wheel that came with my pc  :P Its great and has worked well for like 4-5 years now. Laser can be dusty and its still fine. Buttons have worn smooth where i use it but hell still better than a gaming mouse with 100 buttons that goes wrong ^^

Can't really go wrong with a decent Logitech mouse. Good warranty service, good mice and not overpriced. G400 is still good enough for me
