Everyone remember this new Crytek game "Ryse - Son of Rome" which could have been pretty cool except for the quicktime events?
Read an article about it...
Maybe it's a bug I think, but no. Next time I deliberately press the wrong button. The kill goes ahead, no consequences. Then I try hitting no buttons whatsoever. The kill goes ahead. I put the controller on the table in front of me, the kill goes ahead. (...) I ask one of the Crytek people hovering at the booth – is this a bug? Why am I completing kills when I hit the wrong button prompt? Or, worse, no button at all. Turns out it was a deliberate design choice. (...) "We don’t want the player to feel frustrated,' I am told.
What the fuck?
It's the known gameplay scene from the game but a Crytek guy talking you through...
"We call the fight system mashing the Mastery... you don't have to push the buttons... we wanted to keep the flow cuz missing a button on things like would let the player lose focus for like 10 seconds and that is lame... so you get bonus points for the buttons... we have over 100 different animations for those... the system is really robust"
I always knew Crytek was only about graphics and never about gameplay but this design decision is absurd. Don't even know if to laugh or cry.
Then again it's Xbox1 exclusive so maybe it's just conform with the targeted playerbase...
