Gothic 3 is actually pretty good. Not like the first two games (first Gothic is my favorite) but way better than Oblivion and Skyrim if you ask me. I'm a fan of first Risen as well. Haven't bought Risen 2: Dark Waters yet.

Never played Arcania and not really interested in doing that, like ever (same goes for Deus Ex 2).

Two Worlds II is a very decent game, had a lot of fun playing it. It has way better character animations than Skyrim, thanks to Physx support.

My biggest issue with G3 is lack of Solid State Drive in my gaming rig...

best magic system in cRPGs

That's correct but guess what? Most players hated the game because magic cards system is too complex for them. Fuck mainstream gamers!

Also, TWII has the only truly hardocore quest I've seen in last 10 years. I'm talking about those crazy tombs. I actually drew maps with pencil and paper, didn't download them from internet like most players did.

Played all of em. Including the Risenthingies. I loved 2. Loved it alot acctually. 3 was well...ehh. Isnt as bad as they say it is, but nothing too special. But Gothic 3:FG was the first pure shit ive ever seen in my life that has exsisted on my PC. It was like a pile of shit falling from the heavens. After massive patching, alot of crap was still exsisten. Oh and Risen sux imo.

Frankly I dont see the appeal of these games anymore. And JoWood was an extremely shit company in its final years.

Difficulty level in NOTR was retarded. I still recall myself gathering all dragonroots available using a printed map of G2 world (yeah) and saving them for high level alchemy just to be able to use a proper two handed sword. To this day I don't really know how does a guy using one handed weapons fight those groups of 10-12 orcs at once, for me it was endless kiting with stopping every few steps to dish out a swing out of their range and take one out or half of his hp. If I fucked up though I'd get instagibbed despite really high STR and best armor.

Yea, the difficulty was really hard. I might have cheated myself a bit of HP on that one  :?

Beating Gothic 2: NotR without cheating or having any prior experience with the Gothic series was probably the greatest video game achievement I have ever accomplished. No regrets.

Gothic 1 and 2 are my favorite RPGs as well :)

Gothic 2 with NotR was difficult, especially if you messed up your build. You needed to level up by killing weaker monsters in a rather certain order (clearing out all the weak monsters, then taking on slightly tougher monsters, exploring everything and then going back to take on the bigger baddies), whilst focusing entirely on a certain weapon group/specialisation.

Groups of orcs (you probably mean the besieged settlement in that valley) - yeah, you totally can't charge that head-on, gotta pick off smaller groups carefully - but then fighting groups does become viable, if you're strong enough, even with 1h weapons.

Once you do get to the top levels, it becomes rather easy, though, except against some particular enemies.

I don't remember another game, where i've done this much saving/loading

Gothic 3 with community patch, on hard diff. and with alternative A.I. is way harder than G2. You have to use companion as a bait for bigger part of the game.

G3 is difficult, because the combat system is a broken piece of turd.

Gothic 1 was so fucking awesome - really, the grim and gitty setting enthralled me like few games did since.
Gothic 2 was really really good aswell, although imo 1 was better.

I also really liked the difficulty - if you went into a certain area too early, you were dead meat. Not like these pussygames today where you can´t access too high-level areas at first or where the enemies get scaled down.
Maybe it woud be better for me to find out where you life and kill you when you are satch a Soziopath. You have enough now.

Another thing I remember about G2 NoTR is being rather amused that game makes it outright impossible for a melee oriented character to kill a dragon because of firebreath knockback + hp regen. It always felt to me that they added all those op scrolls after finishing all encounters and while playtesting it  they realized 'hang on, what the fuck, this is impossible'. I could kill the final boss in three-four hits, I could not do it though without a scroll summoning a skeleton, demon or whatever to aggro the dragon first and tank the knockback. Just stupid design. In fact iirc a demon can kill undead dragon 1v1 without any problems.

Started playing Gothic 1 a few days ago. It takes some time to get used to, but after that it becomes pretty nice. Joined the old camp now.

Yeah. I really love everything about the game, except the combat. 2h animations and mouse controls are terrible.

Gothic 3 isnt same as Gothic I and II. New gameplay - main is explore the world (not story). Gothic 3 has big open world and u dont need making quests of main story , hero can be a paladin , rebel , merc , assassin , barbarian of Nordmar and member of other smaller groups and factions. Player can be free with no class system - fighting as warrior with sword and shield , mage with fireball (3 schools of magic but player can use spells whatever he wants - fireball (Innos magic) playing as Black Mage  ) , archer thief with alchemy skills . Gothic I and II have good and climatic story but G3 has big world with 3 ecosystems ( green fields  , medieval castles , forests  , arabian themed desert and mountains with a lot of snow and orcs).
