Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad (GOTY)

Hey guys!
Well I looked around these games here and I have to say: Pretty good and informatic all. But I would recommend Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad (the Game of the Year Edition) too.
I didn't find any thread about this game and I really think it's worth it. For all here, who doesn't know what RO 2: HoS is... A short description here and I hope You will understand what I say :D
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad is a Shooter game which brings you directly INTO the 2nd World War. It's weapons are same like the soldiers 1940-1945 used. The game is really great and one lf the most realistic games I have ever played. But I said it's a shooter... Don't think, that's something like Call of Duty (cmon we rush there and there eow I have reached 20 kills in 5 minutes). Nooooo! This game is something else. You have to be careful at just normally waking. Everywhere could be  a man who stalkes you for a while and you just didn't notice it. Mostly you are dead after 1-2 shots with a rifle.

I just made this thread because I really like the game and many others too do maybe You could post something 'bout your thinkings about the game here or what

Good game that sadly suffers quite heavily from sequalitis. If you compare it to Ostfront its not so focussed on tactical realism, but compared to pretty much everything else on offer in FPS genre now its worth picking up.

Theres 2 main server modes to look into, Classic (more hardcore realism) and Realism (more like relaxed realism). Plus theres 3 different server modes Territory (classic RO gameplay), Countdown (their take on S&D/CS style gameplay) and Firefight (TDM).

There is a big expansion coming up Rising Storm (http://www.pcgamer.com/previews/rising-storm-preview/) set in Pacific theatre with banzai charges and a-symetrical balance (bolts for japanese, semi's for US&A). It will probably be on offer then and maybe there will be a free weekend so you could wait until then

When I first started playing this game (launch) day, I was amazed how he enviorment and feeling of the game, especially at Spartanovka really made you feel like you were actually in a WW2 battle. Not like Battlefield or CoD which both does a pretty bad way of making you feel more "alive". Definitively a game worth getting.

Starting this with veterans from the first game is like the dwarf fortress of online FPS.

Getting killed instantly without ever seeing an enemy does wear on the nerves and after a while I just gave up. There is very little twitch skill required. You need patience, map knowledge and malice.

It does work very well as a simulation-ish (and seriously hardcore) game. Also nothing I've seen, even movies and books, does such a striking depiction of WWII.

Its a decent game if you like camping and have patience. And also if you look past all th fucking bugs that never get fixed. Lazy fucking devs gave up on the game after release. Still waiting for the Rising storm dlc which is taking FOREVER and is probably going to be expensive as fuck.

About camping, to capture objectives you can't really camp too much. At least in RO1 anyway it was a very mobile battlefield if you have cooperating team mates trying to cap objectives. In RO2 with the new zoom, easier shooting and harder to see models you're more likely to get randomly shot from anywhere. Plus I reckon the community is less inclined to team play than RO1 community

Yeah I was a fan of RO1 but I was never sure about RO2 after the free weekend, so I never bought it. But after I got it last night I played for a while, on multiplayer campaign, which turned out to be pretty damn fun and on top of that I did pretty good as a Rifleman ( Which I was good at in RO1 so I guess some old skill still remains lol ). It did feel good to bayonet 4 Russians in a row in a trench and get some headshots at long distances.

I think my longest shot was around 500 meters and a headshot, sadly it was before the stats wipe, and all my achievements and campaign progress got removed.
