cRPG > War of Roses & Chivalry... like way better

Logged on to cRPG for the first time tonight, after 8 months away.  What brought me back... was that in the past 2 weeks, I've tried out both War of Roses and Chivalry (at the behest of friends).  I was greatly disappointed in these games.  Not that they are both horrible games.  But certainly not an improvement on Warband (nor the cRPG mod).  No reason to play these games instead of cRPG.

War of Roses --  In my opinion... a poorly made game.  Why make a "new & improved" Warband... and not really improve the game?  Of course it has newer, better graphics?  But the game is certainly more acarde-like.  And to me, the combat is way less realistic.   There's some very strange, arcade-like skills in the game.  Namely, this one skill that allows the player (in full armor and all), to insanely sprint about 10 yards... basically he warps about 10 yards.  Also, the way armor and weapon deflection and penetration works... it's just stupid.  Whether a hit penetrates someone's armor is so random.  Basically, skill doesn't matter as much.  Fights are so random.  And with the crazy skills, all kind of ridiculous outcomes seemed to happen in that game.

Chivalry -- Honestly, Chivalry isn't a poorly-made game.  It's actually a decently well-made game, if not a really well-made game.  I was really impressed with the scenario-based battles.  And that the completion of one objective, led to another objective.  However, I don't feel that the combat is as skilled based, as it is in Warband (cRPG).  For one, there's not directional blocking.  To me, that's one of the defining aspects of cRPG and it's top players... the skill required to block.  Heck, I get more pumped in cRPG when I fend of 3 guys, blocking a dozen plus hits, before I'm eventually cut down... then I get from killing guys.  While Mount & Blades combat isn't totally realistic... it's the most skilled based melee fighting game that I know of.  And though not totally realistic... I dont' know a game that has more realistic combat.  Certainly not the case with both Chivalry & War of Roses... which is why I'm ultimately disappoint with these two game, that were made years after Mount & Blade.

All that to say... major, major respect to cRPG, Warband, and the original M&B.  It's sad that some company can't take all the great aspects of M&B, and build on from of it.  Disappointing that there's not a scenario PvP Mount & Blade.  And I long for an open-world, sandbox, MMO type of Mount & Blade.  Maybe one day?!

Major kudos to cRPG and it's team for making such a great, forward-thinking mod!!!

I think War of the Roses is a complete and utter shit game, really horrible. I can say this after nerding War of the Roses for a tournament on Dreamhack.

Chivalry on the other hand though is a really fun game, great for casual gameplay and social interaction. I just recently bought Chivalry 4-pack for me and my friends, enjoying it a lot so far. It's great for LAN and those friends of yours who are unable to learn blocking in an hour of gameplay. Because Chivalry requires about 1-2 hours of playing in order to be able to kick peoples asses.

Over the past almost 2 and a half years I dare say I've played up to 3,000 hours of cRPG... (No life :( )....

I purchased WOTR last month... Steam says I've played 22 minutes.

Nuff said.

WotR is absolute rubbish, i actually requested a refund (didnt get one tho, curse you steam). Played it for like 15 minutes and nearly cried.

Chivalry on the other hand is very good if you want a casual game you will play for an hour or so a day. The combat is very brutal and really fun. (killing 3 people with a sigle greatsword swing, hacking limbs/heads off etc.) But, alas, it gets dull after a while. There are only 4 classes, no lvls, and almost no costumization.

tl/dr C-rpg - long lasting fun, Wotr - rubbish, Chivalry - short bursts of fun

I was looking forward to WoR until I heard that the devs refereed to it as like the CoD of medieval combat games. That sent the wrong messages to me. Then when I saw videos the GUI put me off even more, there is way too much junk of the screen and theres even Quake style voiceover for some stuff. Then I heard all the negative stuff from M&B players so I never bought it.

Chivalry is something I wish I could get into more. I like it, but theres just something about the gameplay or the fast respawning that makes me lose interest quite fast while playing. I know i'm probably a newbie at it still but it feels like everyone I see playing is. I'd like to see high level players amongst mediocre players to see the difference. Just seems kind of random and spammy, trading hits and regening HP

I'm hopeful, I even donated. But theres a good chance that Donkey crews idea of a good melee game is quite different to ours. I don't think they even like cRPG melee, at least I hardly see devs and when I do they use crossbows. Plus they don't really want even cRPG to be a melee type game

Don't worry, cmp plays this game just like you do. Including backstabbing, running away from danger, always looking for a teammate, right swing spam etc.

chadz is hopeless when it comes to cRPG...

Harald is.. let's say he's active (won't reveal his in game nick). He's twohander.

Espu isn't playing anymore but his nick is Vargas, also very good twohander.

Meow was STR polearm abuser, after that he was an archer. Doesn't play anymore.

Paul has 27 alts but I don't believe him a word he says. He can be found on rageball, he's a shielder wearing nomad armor. Extremely good at melee.

Autobus is great player, one of the best.

Stig is epic player, blocking everything with 120 average ping. Twohander using light armor.

Shik is STR archer, very good player.

Fasader is... mostly drunk. But he's one of the best xbow ever in cRPG. Also decent at 2H.

Jacko is one part of Jacko/Jaako duo and both are xbow. Very good xbow, both of them are. Jaako is also known as Staffmaster, great melee player but he's not part of dev team.

Mustikki while not being a dev or part of meleegaming team is working on cRPG maps. He's an archer and polearmer. Has way too many alts and I know each one of them

Ozin is, I think also xbow. Decent player.

Varric doesn't play anymore and I'm not sure he works on balance but he was cmp's carbon copy when it comes to build.

Final_Boss is a cool dude who used to play on EU server and he is 2H.

Mylet is an eye. Doesn't play anymore.

Punisher was 2H player using Miaodao. Great player, shame I'm not seeing him around anymore. Epic admin as well.

Tenne was dev for like two hours :D. We all know Tenne, don't we?

Main problem is that cmp is having huge influence on cRPG and he's wasn't in original dev team. Like chadz once said, cRPG exists because they wanted to play a game like that. How many of them you see playing these days? I'll tell you: Harald and Paul (maybe Shik). What that tells you?

The team for the next game is smaller right? Its chadz & cmp, then Hadold, Ozin, Jacko, Shik, autobus and the Stig.

So according to Leshma's info, xbow, pole, 2hander, xbow, xbow, archer, various (?), 2 hander. How much weight people carry for balance we don't really know though

Yeah we all knew WoTR sucked massive cock, but you say that you are dissapointed with Chivalry because it's less realistic than Warband combat, well I don't think they ever intended it to be "realistic" and I can assure you Warband ( and CRPG ) combat is far from "realistic too" lol. Chivalry is a good game, but IMO it's something to play every now and then for short periods of time, it doesn't have much content but it does have awesome, fast paced gorey combat.

War of the Roses shouldn't even be mentioned next to these two games regardless, it's just that fucking bad, infact we should probably be downvoted just for talking about it.
