Just my opinion: Bring back an added penalty for loosing, especially now siege is more winnable for defenders: Maybe keep current "Everybody has to risk breaks" system, but make it, maybe 10% of base price to fix for LOOSERS, and 5% for winners, enough to make loosing suck a bit more than just loosing multiplier, cause I FIGHT to keep that x5.
I know the .200 upkeep system penalised heavy inf/cav TOO much, and us archers cut them to pieces (If you want proof, ask TheFinn (sry for all the arrows Finny, but HAD to get them in while I could)), and although I greatly enjoyed playing that way, it WAS too much penalty, although it made us peasants with longbows the "Hand of God" and we picked who wanted to die so easily....
