Somebody that he liked the writing style of, etc, of  course in the event that he himself could  not finish them for the aforementioned reasons.


E: For those of you new to the series, he's averaged 3 years inbetween each book release, and has been getting slower and slower about it.  I only picked the series up recently, I had finished the entire thing when the show was announced, but I was still amazed to find out that he started writing them in 1991.

 Just read this two paragraphs on wikipedia and strongly recommended this post from his blog and perhaps read/watch some interviews from him.

If you still don't understand why had to do things the way he did and why it took him so long and if he would do things not in his way the books wouldn't be half as awesome you should stop reading and stop complaining.

Stories of this caliber needs time to mature. The Lord of Rings trilogy took 18 years to get published, 12 of which were used for writing alone.

Five books and nothing in the actual story changes state other than main characters dying. Lannisters still control King's Landing. The war isn't resolved. Arya is still in limbo. Sansa is still a captive (technically; not rescued that's for sure). Dany is still in the freelands. We're still waiting for "winter to come" and for the others to attack. etc. It's pretty pathetic really.

they really have dumbed stuff down a bit, simplying/shortening some plots and adding extra dialogue/scenes to make things much more obvious (such as renly's sexuality). doesn't really bother me too much, its kind of nessary to make it work as tv series.

magery tyrell better cast than I originally thought, pretty dam hot. brienne seems well caste so far, proper hieght and all.

yoren sure put up a fight! totally did a boromir there, crossbow bit did remind of crpg. still not sure it was as good a scene as in the books where they are defending a building. Again they simplied stuff a fair bit, as they were't captured until much later.
