Way to huge of a project for the technology we have today.

Doubt this will happen, but cool concept anyways.

I think I've read of this a few month ago on the unity3d forums. Some dev claimed he will do that, and when others said that's impossible, he was just like "oh you all suck! you just dont know how!"

Definately never going to happen, and if it does, it's not gonna be epic.

It can be done, just won't look and feel how most people expect it will be.

Also, this part:

Quote
We want a fresh planet so exploration is that much more meaningful. We also don't want to have to get everything "just right". Having a new planet also gives us the opportunity to customize the terrain to make it more interesting for players.

means they won't be using height data trying to replicate earth terrain, probably will use perlin noise or something similar to "customize" new planets.

Problem with this project is, that I can't find who is behind it. I don't understand why they are hiding it, unless they want to scam someone as chadz said.

It sounds awesome but the amount of stuff they would need to code and setup would be insane. Especially when people expand outside the earth. I'd definitely like the idea but I still doubt the ability to make this kind of thing 10 years from now, let alone now.

We'll see though, maybe they'll make it and it'll be a letdown. Besides there's something similar to this wehre you can make kingdoms and claim land and establish towns on the phone. Called parallel kingdoms. Its not all that advanced though but it is set to the gps of the earth. I'm in russia atm in the game in a town a friend of mine made.

Good point.

Only difference is that we're limited in this game, in game we're discussing we don't have to be limited by anything.

Yes, I'm voting for Matrix instead of reality. Sue me.

..., in game we're discussing we don't have to be limited by anything.
...
define limited, space as the latest theories say, may have actual limits, if they are now called bubbles, child universes, expanding/imploding Universe theory or whatever. Sure one problem may be that our imagination would be limited and therefor we always see walls, before an opening, we see problems before we see solutions, we think in categories and in shades which are part of a spectrum of choices.

Philosophical much, are we?

Yes we are limited but what I meant that it would be cool to be less limited than now. Without physical limitations, only limited by our imagination.

And you're the one to talk about limitations, dude who's playing the same boring class in cRPG for almost two years...

A game with choices as diverse as those I make in my own life seems extremely boring and useless. Not that I don't like my life, I love it. A game that would reproduce it would be redundant, wouldn't it ? I would like my actions in the game to have less consequences (so that I can have true freedom).

When you look at the video, even if this is not a scam, there are soooo many problems with this I don't even know where to start. To reproduce realistic scientific advancement would require players not to have the knowledge beforehand, which is not possible. Besides, if players become able to travel through space, it means the engine absolutely needs to simulate what happens at a level of precision that is simply not possible except if we build a quantum computer 50 times the size of the universe.

Not sure if it's really the same, but it does sound VERY similar.

the one you posted should be OperationSidfin where the game world is an entire solar system , i'm not sure if it's the same but yes , it's very similar.

btw someone should start a new mmo like was Ultima , all these new mmos are pure shit compared to Ultima or Ryzom (ye ryzom had potential but he failed :() , i was hyped by Darkfall once , thinking that was a good sandbox choice but it mutates in a quake arena mmo.

chadz , recruit some badass programmer , earn a lot of money to rent a masterwork server and be the Messiah plz.
