a new hoplite class

i was thinking about a new char and thought about a hoplite. though i don't wanna make a normal hoplite, but one with a buckler. i didn't see it before and i've never been a hoplite so what do you guys think i should have as a build?

also some people use a warspear and some awlpike but what is best?

Disregard what i said, pick what you like best for weapon. Awlpike is good. battle fork is good too.

oh, I'd suggest high as hell agility.

I had one. kinda hard to play, and if you want to use throwing lances / javelines (...) in addition with the spear and buckler, well, it might not be possible after next patch with multi slots items. bucklers are not very hoplite-ish, I'd prefer elite cavalry shield, eventually huscarl, or board shields for a more roman triiari style. But hey, your character, your choice.

As for the spear, th awlpike has a better pierce attack, I'd say it's better for support and use with a buckler. The advantage of war spear is it has side swing attacks once you fight without a shield, the awlpike has only vertical/thrust. Depends on what you prefer I'd say, and try both if you're not sure.

I'd prefer a 15/21 build then, or even a 15/24, with no ironflesh, 6 athletics and shield, 5 PS and 8 converted points.
12 strenght won't allow you to wear a very good armor, but same as before, depends on what you prefer.

(And I'm no shielder, but I think Marathon made a good point)

that's true but disadvantage is buckler won't be on your back but on your belt when you don't use it.

Berethorn, to be honest...

With my build (12/24), using buckler and either war spear or awlpike, you will dance around opponents easily. It isn't 10 athletics, of course, so don't expect to backpedal every enemy, but some of heavy, str builds won't be able to catch you. + you have long weapon!

You can dodge arrows, if you learn how to.
