How to make gold lootable?

So many people wish to make gold lootable. If you have an idea post it here.

MY IDEA.
Why not do something like this. Implement a second currency: grain.
Grain would have exactly 1:1 with gold(so 1 grain is 1 gold) and it's only purpose would be to pay for army upkeep while gold would be for gear only. It would NOT cause someone to have crates. This way, if someone has a lot of grain when you attack him, you can loot ALL of it and turn it into gold(or leave it as is for your own armies).

Allow the conversion from gold to grain in fiefs only. A way to loot gold without screwing everyone over. You only loot what the person has made lootable.(and for large armies this could be 2-5k depending) while small armies would be less. Of course it's not as good as just a 5% loot of gold but this way it adds a dynamic into the gold system.

That's my idea, what idea's do you have?

Let's ask the GO about ways to exploit this, but sounds alright to me.
Would the transaction in fiefs require to pay the tax to the fief owner? As that would make having lands more important.

Why would someone convert gold to grain if he can lose the grain but not the gold?  :?:

If you meant that you can only use grain to pay your troops: You would get big problems, if you get attacked several times and don't have enough grain with you for several days.
The logic of war seems to be that if a belligerent can fight he will fight.

Interesting idea, though I'd rather just have gold be lootable on it's own. I guess the biggest reason against that is people who play a lot of cRPG but no Strat are just freebie gold-mines waiting to be harvested?

I wasn't thinking of adding tax. I was thinking of the easiest most simple way to do it.  If you had to start paying tax on it, then all sorts of complications come into being and that's not the point. K.I.S.S. Nothing complicated.

Why would someone convert gold to grain if he can lose the grain but not the gold?  :?:

If you meant that you can only use grain to pay your troops: You would get big problems, if you get attacked several times and don't have enough grain with you for several days.

That's the point. Grain pays for troops. You win battle: get their grain. You loose: you lose all grain. If you lose, though, you get auto set down to 0 troops and have to recruit back for more(takes 4.5 days from 0 i hear) and you pay no upkeep for those.

Trying to keep it simple. Grain = Gold but Gold doesn't pay for troops. You still will have gold runners, but you would need (semi) active people otherwise your armies will die from no grain. Right now, you can effectively pay for upkeep(on afk or otherwise) by puttin gold on them. With this, you'd have to have people convert to grain and then drop it to them making "army upkeep" running impossible to do safely.

He didn't say that. Derp!

Yes. In addition, it adds a dynamic to prevent AFKs from just having shit tons of gold on them and their armies. You gotta have "grain runners" so to speak if you want to wage a war. Otherwise, you equip tons of grain on armies(or lots of gold for the armies to convert gold to grain as they go). meaning that for armies to press a war, they have to be staffed right and not just tons of horded gold.

Interesting point. That would make all those 100 troop-unarmed-zombies on the map valuable targets at once  8-)

Remember this is only my idea. Simple solution(beyond a base loot chance of X%).

I like it better with grain since that means if you lose(as attacker) you don't get warped(sometimes) and are able to be counter attacked by defender(thereby on a base lose chance you'd lose double). This way, attacking the attacker after a loss gets the defender nothing(except leftover gear).

I want to keep gold unlootable as a base commodity since that'd promote nothing but farming randoms, inactives, and just attacking people for whatever reason(like EU's attacking NA since they'd have gold and would never be able to go home due to messed up warp mechanics)

You didn't say that grain is the only way to pay your troops

Boo! -'d that. That was the implied point.

complicated? Grain = gold and does the same thing gold does for troop upkeep.
Stupid, maybe. Complicated, no.

DO you have another idea? You must not have read the first sentence.

I suggest just making gold 100% lootable.

We live in a harsh world  :D

When you get bandited, they search in your purses too, not only in your armory !

The AFKers will be mined by everyone who can so its fair.
