Because it's a general off-topic discussion? Couldn't think of a better place to put it and i've talked with some of my friends in the area who up until yesterday were thinking the event would be "no big deal". The more people in the path of this who know how serious this is, the better. I'm sure if this isn't the appropriate forum a mod will move it soon enough.

I'm in Rhode Island and there is a mandatory evacuation in my town even though the real storm isn't even entering the state. I'm sure as fuck not going to the damn high school to "take cover." It may not be overhyped for the places that are in the storm's path, but it definitely is up here.

Btw, here is a picture of my houseblock, after a storm hit Denmark for 2 years ago. Not a joke, i had to sleep in my bathroom, cause felt like all these construction materials will break through windows on their way down... Few cars got trashed, but no human victims.

places are being evacuated because the coastlines and harbors are basically going to get hit by a tsunami from the hurricane's power.  farther inland the worries are power outages from trees and powerlines being knocked over, flooding due to rainwater or river overflow, and idiots walking or driving during the storm and dying

so just avoid trees and shit and u should be OK.  where I live is Ground Zero for the Frankenstorm though
