KUTT & the Swiss faction have come to an agreement. They are under our protection and will be working with us. They will be running trade routes, mercing for us in battles, and even running their own assaults on occasion.

They are swapping us the city of Reyvadin, and we will be passing them the village of sumbuja. They will be basing their operations out of that area. Please feel free to contact Swiss in regards to setting up your own trade deals with them.

Swiss will be honoring our trade agreements with cotgs/mercs/french EU faction, Remnant,  Occitan, Fallen and of course our various agreements with Hospitaller.

Im Speechless!

I can only Approve.

Signed,

I need to go eat some of my words. I had told an EU buddy that NA clans were too proud to openly accept anything so demeaning as vassalage; thanks for proving me wrong... jerks!

It was by their request, Matey. We didn't walk up to them and say "Hey give us your city and be our vassals". I offered them a significant crpg gold bribe, and they counter offered with wanting their own fief and to be our vassals and work with us. We accepted. It allows them to work closely with us and work under our protection. It's a beneficial agreement.

Meh! I don't have anything against mutually beneficial agreements, but Vassalage to me has always meant one big group taking advantage of a smaller group and demanding tribute and being able to bully them at will... but making sure no one else bullies them (unless of course someone even bigger attacks the little guy and so the big guys decide it isn't worth actually trying to back them up).

but hey, if they want to be vassals then they can have fun with that. It's not something I think well of, but there isn't really any reason for them to care what I think, so carry on.

They chose order and civility over your bandit lifestyle full of uncertainty and chaos. Order is needed to keep peace and expand empires! They have made the right choice.

We have had a Vassal once. The Bandits back in Strat 2.
They were fed up with strat diplomacy and just wanted some fun fights.
After their leader left they joined us as Wolves. Later their leader came back and they reformed.
I still think of them as friends. In the way i think of it, a vassal is even closer then an alliance partner, they are like the own blood.

I believe there are several good reasons to look for a protector and it is up to the vassal if he chooses to stay with him. It is a mutual agreement where both are benefiting. If it comes to the described bullying as you said Matty i believe those who offered to be Protector were unfit for the job.

Other then that it is a Roleplaying Semantic. You can also have allies which are bullied by a stronger alliance partner.

We don't just walk up to people and bully them. Honestly having a vassal is a responsibility. If someone picks a fight with them we're obligated to protect and provide financial support. They asked us if they could be our vassals, in addition to our previous offer, and we accepted. :P It's not like we said "Grrrr you little kids better give us your milk money or we'll beat you up and give you a wedgie" it was more like "Hey we will bribe you in exchange for protection and other stuff"

Mostly the term "vassal" can be considered loaded with a sub/dom power dynamic, like dragging around a gagged and bound leatherclad pervert on a leash while forcing him to drink from urinals while you piss in them, patting them on the head saying good dog.

While it fits into the Paradox game-esque grand strategy metagame with familiar terminology, we are dealing with groups of regular players who don't want to get stomped by some nerd stacked mega alliance, not malnourished 14th century shit European territories.  So I simply prefer terms like friends or allies, instead of vassals.  Its a great manipulative technique to get people to trust and respect you and feel like they are a serious, independent clan, while you treat their players like chocolate chip cookie slave labor as you strive for your pure gorilla clan's Lebensraum across Calradia.

Another elaborate yet harsh explanation from Smoothbich! Brd claims they are many different  clans into 1 but they really are not! They

have allies and goals like any other clan and if they want more 'vassals' they will have to work harder to sway them! Or nicer!  :P

Well, I have not been directly involved with Swiss members, but essentially their "vassalage" is merely in terms of protection and mercs for our side. As far as I'm aware, their involvement in Sumbuja and its role is entirely up to them and the goods and trade they produce is also up to them.

So I would say we are more like, friends with benefits.
