Haha, thats a clever move. To be fair though, we dont learn anything in school about the US (only the wars ua., how the US was founded and more), not the states. Sadly Geography is a class that really needs more time in schools. Same as politics.

It's already plenty for us europeans to know where U.S.A. exactly is, whereas they have BIG trouble pointing out UK, France, Germany and Australia on a world map.

Thing is, geography classes in european countries is "country's name", "Europe" and the big powers "USA, China".
But when you learn history, you learn your countrie's wars, and the two WW.

I believe american's geography teaches about the US states. So many of them.
And history is about their independance and WW.



I'm quite impressed at how much i learned at school and still remember (like Florida used to be French, but they sold it because they needed gold for their wars, i wonder how many americans know about this.)

Yeah it's not much better tbh in the UK. USA is bigger so there are simply more idiots. But I bet if I went down to my nearest council estate and started asking questions about geography ect then they wouldn't be able to answer a damn thing.

Anyway, i find it interesting, and i don't blame americans, but the education, since you're just not taught about geopolitical world in geography class, but learn it in your language class (german class teaches you where germany is, for example) and in the history class.

And as one american student said : "who cares about putting a name on a country on a map, it's not something that will affect my future work"

It's just a different geography lessons approach, varies for each country.

Note: The first time I read this I wondered if the author was just being an asshole. Then I realised it was totally true and tested. Related to american adults:

It will affect your ability to understand what is going on in the world outside of the borders of your own country and thus function as a voting citizen in a democracy. Also, not knowing the location of even the bigger countries/geographical objects pretty much makes you an ignorant, extremely limited and easily manipulated doofus.

Can't agree more with this. Thus i slightly edited my post, since i, in no way, approves of this "who cares about geography". Hope my own opinion of all this is clearer now.
